Agreed. IMO it’s perfectly fine even to talk about what a tree wants to happen - even though there is no actual emotion of desire - a tree produces seeds; it’s beneficial for those seeds to be distributed and protected; the tree has adapted to behave in certain ways that promote that distribution and protection; short informal version: the tree wants its seeds to succeed.
