I’ve heard the term used once, by a girl I was dating who was born in raised in North Carolina. Our first time was delayed a night because I laughed so hard when she first said “cooter”. I assumed it to be a southern colloquialism.
Tefca?
I am almost positive that on the Commentary of the “Dukes Of Hazard Season 1” DVD boxed set, the commentators (I think Tom Wopat and Catherine Bach) talk about the use of the name “Cooter” and how the network wasn’t too happy with the the name, but they let it slide anyway. I can’t find this info (and what the beef was) because I don’t have the DVD anymore, but this would have been in 1979 that someone found the word “cooter” to be objectionable.
I am certain it is a Southern regionalism, not just for the female bits but also for the turtle. For the record, while I was born and raised in SC, I only first heard it in nerd camp in NC from an NC native.
I just wanted to say that “pocketbook” is really, really cute.
Did anyone see Ed Helms’ Daily Show report from Citrus County, FL about their annual ‘Cooter Festival?’
A cooter in my world is a turtle.
As in, cooter stew. Also, critter stew, which often contained cooter.
Yes, I’ve eaten roadkill box turtle. What of it?
I’ll go for that, being the season of goodwill etc.
I like to refer to them as “the naughty bits”, a phrase which here means someplace I like to go when I want to be naughty. YMMV.
I once saw a dog with vaginitis. (IAAV) The owner was trying to be all proper, and asked what you called “that” (pointing) part on a dog.
I told her the terminology was the same as for a person.
She said, “Oh, well she has a sore cooter.”
I saw it. Hilarious!
“That’s a big cooter!”
“What do your feed your cooter, ma’am?”
If you ever get a chance to go to a bird show, it can be a blast. Male birds are often called “cocks”. Hearing people say things like, “Hey, did you see Ed’s cock?” or “Boy, now there is a cock I wouldn’t mind having!”.
I seem to remember him talking to some woman, and asking her if he could get a shot of her cooter!
Paging Auntie Em
Start by researching this guy’s family tree
I must be the only one in this thread with a small child. On the Teletubbies, Po refers to her scooter as a “cooter”. I laugh every time I hear that. “Po cooter!” I had a friend that used that word to refer to the female anatomy, he was the only person I knew that ever used that word. Now, whenever I hear “Po cooter!” I think of him.
