Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run - Front cover and full cover
The sort of obvious image that someone would have done. That the someone was Foghat in no way makes this any less fun. Rock and Roll
I’ve always been partial to cover for the single “Relax”, by Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
- Magician’s Birthday - because all in all, this is wicked cool.
- Murmur - nothing like kudzu taking over a backyard for a good spooky image.
- Meaty Beaty Big & Bouncy - fun times imaging the kids are somehow the band members, and they are clearly not. Oh well.
- The Bends - the ecstasy of distortion!
- Born to Run - certainly up there with rock star imagines.
- Who’s Next - yeah, fairly iconic in it’s own right.
- Relax - wait, isn’t this disco? Ah, it’s a cool shot anyway.
- Sabotage - Oi! Who’s that fat wanker in the red tights?
- Rock and Roll - yeah, it’s silly.
- Draw the Line - not really a Hirschfeld fan. Always thought he was overrated, but I felt the same about Norman Rockwell, and that one guy who always painted in splotches too.
Today’s pick is from bubble gum rock group the Cars, but this was my introduction to the works of Vargas. Candy-O
Don’t think this has been mentioned yet: U2’s War.
Finally people are mentioning Hugh Syme covers! (Megadeth, Rush)
He’s probably my favourite, and I suppose the fact that Rush is my favourite band has something to do with that.
But just to be different, I’ll nominate a non-Rush album. Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction
That’s OK, I’ll bring Rush back into the mix…
Rush - Moving Pictures
Especially when you consider the Backside
Plus…
No love for Queen?
Not every band has the sense to talk an iconic SF image and place themselves in it being killed.
Mentioned and listed in an earlier post. We are on the cutting edge here!
Beck’s Odelay: File:Odelay.jpg - Wikipedia
I mean really, what the hell is that thing? A sheepdog made out of marijuana?
I submit Marillion’s Fugazi album cover. It’s a solid album cover on its own. Plus, the artwork manages to reference almost every song on the album, as well as their previous album.
Thank you all for making me welcome.
I’d stay but my wings have just
dropped off.
Jethro Tull A Passion Play
Today it’s Debbie Harry’s Koo Koo.
The Alan Parsons Project. Eve.
An unsetting image.
Looks like this is winding on down.
I will compile of list of all the albums into one huge set and then we’ll vote on which ones we like the very best.
In the meantime, here’s this from Ian Hunter
Wait! Wait! I’ve got another: Siren, by Roxy Music.
A little bit of editing and we’re currently looking at 90 record covers.
Because I want to have links to everything, this will take a little while to set up, but sometime tomorrow – or much later tonight – I’ll start the World’s Greatest Album Cover Elimination Game and we’ll narrow the candidates down from 90 to 10.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this phase of the event, stay tune for the ruthless voting and cruel judgments on other people’s tastes coming soon!
We need to have some kind of “best rock band” elimination game. Another forum I visit had one a few years ago and I can’t find it or recall exactly how it worked.
The Mothers of Invention: We’re Only In it For the Money
Here is the outside. And, if you don’t get it, here is the inside, compared side by side to the original.
Just testing the code…
hope to have the game up by tomorrow… jeepers there’s a lot of stuff to do before hand…
