The worst Root Beer ever!!! Olde Brooklyn

I went to a bagel place for lunch today. I’m still new to the job and exploring the local lunch places.

Got a ham and cheese bagel. Some yogurt (blueberry). Looking for a drink I spot a display of bottles. You know the sort…small brand…grape soda, orange soda, birch beer…ROOT BEER!!!

Now, as some of you may know (Hi MADs!) I’m a fan of root beer. I’ll take a good non-caffeinated, low carbonation root beer over most any beverage on earth.

So, there it was, ‘Olde Brooklyn Root Beer’. I give it a go.

FHWAH!!!

Ugh, the utter misery inherent in this root beer! Nothing has been seen the like since the black death I feel certain! This is, without a doubt, the worst root beer there has ever been. Bootleg root beers made in Singapore doubtlessly outperform this wretched excuse for a root beer.

It’s name: Olde Brooklyn. Avoid it. It tastes like the skip to yucca root and instead use licorice or cream soda or BOTH(!!!) in the mix.

Ugh!

There should be a law against this product.

UGH!

Uh oh. I friend of mine just moved back to Texas, and I got a bottle of that stuff to include in a ‘Brooklyn’ themed care package.

And now Lady Chance has just accused me of being a geek.

I quote:

“YOU’RE BROWSING A ROOT BEER REVIEWS SITE? WHY DID I MARRY YOU?”

Well on the bright side I didn’t send it yet.

I still could have bought a Corona with that money though.

Take the plunge. Send him the Corona.

Come to our next party and I’ll make it up to you with some Dominion Root Beer.

Really, that Olde Brooklyn stuff is foul beyond belief.

I would have to taste a bottle to tell you if it really was the worst root beer ever. (Feel free to mail me a couple…) I’ve tasted probably about 30 brands by now and some of them are positively vile. You should avoid one called “Tommyknockers.” Especially the maple variety. It is very, very bad. Some are only mildly bad, but I actually could not finish a bottle of that stuff. I would tell you some of the other stinkers, but I’ve forgotten their names. I recognize them only when I see the label on a shelf somewhere and begin frothing at the mouth and going into seizures as my subconcious mind remembers drinking it. You should avoid any “herbal” root beers at all cost, as well as anything that actually does have licorice in it.

For the record, IBC is my #1 favourite for a mild, non-specialty all-around generic root beer. (I’ve tasted a LOT of root beer.) My local Starbucks carries Thomas Kemper, which I also like, though it has just a little more bite and aftertaste than IBC. The TK Orange Cream Soda is also good… smooth and rich like a melted orange creamsicle.

Is that what you drank? That’s not root beer, that’s birch beer. No wonder you thought it was nasty if you were expecting root beer.

You should dry a ginger beer, you’ll love that.

(Hey, at least I can drink the stuff without my eyes watering…)

No, no, I actually had the root beer. I can’t stand birch beer.

Ugh!

Actually problem solved, I’ll send a bottle of Brooklyn Lager!

I’m out out work, let the weekend begin!!!

A&W also makes a good rootbeer, as does Mug, although my favorite is IBC.

A and W out of the tap is an otherworldly experience. Some joints in the Bay Area carry Thomas Kemper on tap.

Best root beer ever:
Saranac Root beer.

(I hope that link works)

LOVE it. I also love Stewarts Sodas, the root beer and the orange cream.

I can vouch for Dominion, JC. That stuff is hella good.

I like a good root beer myself, now and again. The worst I have ever had didn’t even have a name.

It was home-made. Some girl my ex-husband dated made a batch and left about a case at his house.

I think she was trying to poison him. That stuff made my tongue hold up a white flag and wave it through my nostrils.

Awful just doesn’t quite seem to describe it…sort of a Mr. Clean bouquet and a touch of Raid mixed in for flavor.

Simply horrendous.

Undying love for Olde Brooklyn sodas, checking in.

While the root beer isn’t the greatest in the world, their orange and cream sodas are to die for!!! So, don’t knock the whole brand just for the one product.

There.
Off my soapbox, now.

Another Dominion fan. On tap it’s the greatest.

Agent maybe I’ll send one of those then, thanks.

Ooh. They even have info on my favorite root beer. Too bad I can’t find it anywhere anymore… grrr…

Although, A&W, from the tap, in a frosted mug, is usually pretty dang good also.
takes notes on the root booze to avoid

<< Drink it down, down, down, down, down… >>

You don’t like birch beer? I am not sure we can be friends anymore…

Anyone else remember when Snapple wasn’t just juices & tea? Root beer! Cream soada! Man, I miss those. Why’d they drop the sodas? The company is named after their apple soda fer chrissakes!
