Stephen Colbert also, with Jon Stewart a not terribly close third, have proven they can hold their own, at least til reinforcements arrive. This comes as no great surprise to their fans but reinforces their intelligence and wit to others- Colbert’s show hardly suffered at all save for the absence of the daily Word.
Yeah, I watch Colbert and Stewart every night, and Conan only once in a while. Colbert had a few up and down episodes and I definitely missed The Word and the Threatdown, but there were some great moments. I think he is very involved in the writing of his show, and much of the time, there wasn’t much of a dropoff because he knows how to stay in character.
But when Jon or Conan just screwed up, that’s fun too. Last night (I think) Jon accidentally sprayed that fire extinguisher all over his feet instead of at the audience, and he lost it. It would’ve been less funny if he got it right.
And hey, the “fight” never would have happened if not for the strike.
Yay. At least 4 more episodes of House, but I do hope to see 6. I hope Fox spaces them out a bit. The last 3 episodes were burned off in the course of 8 days. Not good.
While I’m glad that Reaper has quite a few new shows to run, I’m suspicious that there’s no indication that the show will get a 2nd season. Does anyone have any information they’d like to share or am I just being pessimistic?
New episodes will air beginning Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
There is nothing definitive, but if it find the audience that it had pre-strike, it should be picked up. It is benefiting from CW being willing to let the show build an audience and apparently some hope they can lure Kevin Smith back for another episode next year.
Good to hear that the writers are happy about the deal. What are the chances that SAG is going to put us through this again, though, now that you guys have the residuals that you wanted?
Elenfair, ignore my question. I found the answer. Five more episodes this season, but Seasons 5 and 6 will have three more, to keep a total of 48. link
Unfortunately, Heroes likely isn’t coming back:
The writers killed Heroes? Fuckers.
Oh wait. They said “this season.” So, it will be back, right? Hell, I’ve waited I think about four years now for a new season of Battlestar Galactica, I guess I can wait for Heroes.
I’m not filled with feelings of goodness and light right now though.
I’m hoping for more than four as well. I miss our crotchety doc.
Heroes took a huge nosedive this year, but then, NBC is having a shit year all around. Seriously, what the hell is up with that? Anyway, it doesn’t look good for the Heroes crew.
House will get at least 4 more episodes, possibly more, depending on how fast the writing staff can produce – I doubt I can get more info than that, but I’ll certainly poke and ask. People are busy as hell.
NCIS is getting 7 and completing its season, the CSIs are also getting fairly large orders, NY getting another 7, LV 6 and lord knows why Miami is still alive but it is.
The L&O Franchises got an order for 5, including Criminal Intent.
Reaper’s a bit of an unknown at this point in time. It has lost momentum, which is a huge shame, but the CW will hopefully give it another year or at least another half-season order in the fall.
Soaps have been in reruns OR scabbed through the strike. This was a problem in the strike of '88 as well. They are now back on track.
The first question our teams were asked yesterday when people started getting back to work was: “Can anyone remember what we were working on three months ago?” Most of us didn’t have any banked scripts when we left. We struggled to finish what we had in order to give our show-runners and producers as much as we could. We wrapped up shooting scripts so they had stuff to shoot and now, well, man – we have no CLUE where we were going anymore. It’s like starting a new season. It’s going to be interesting.
There’s a lot of scrambling. It’s going to be madness in the next while. I expect to be doctoring and polishing scripts faster than ever before, to meet these deadlines.
It looks way better for SAG and AFTRA now. They can now go in and open with something strong.
That said, AMPTP being what it is, you never know… but I think this strike has cost them enough. They can’t afford another one.
What about californication?
Glad Life will be back in the fall. That show kicks ass, very different and refreshing.
Yikes. Harlan Ellison, who is generally pretty passive and laid back, weighs in.
ETA: I think he’s off base about it, but…man…
Elenfair, I don’t know if I said it before, but thank you for sharing your perspective on the strike, and on what it means. I’ve found it enlightening over the past few months.
Thanks for the excellent writeup of what this actually means! Good news.
Elenfair, I would be curious to hear your reactions to Harlan Ellison’s criticism of the settlement.
