Though I am a Yankee fan, this logic should be applied to fans of any team (ok, any team but the Expos):
It’s not football. It’s a long season. As they say, “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”. Need proof? Look at the A’s teams of recent years.
So, Sox fans, Yanks fans, Mariners fans, whatever: Relax. Enjoy the games. It’s baseball, that joyous sport of summer. No team has ever won a pennant in April. Let’s see where everyone is in August or September. Any true fan will tell you that you never know what’s going to happen. Like major injuries, for example.
Of course I’m rooting for the Yankees, but if they don’t win, so be it. Believe it or not, a lot of us Yankee lovers, as jeevwoman pointed out, realize that overall it’s not healthy for baseball for any one team to win all the time, and the Yankees don’t. They’ve won 26 titles but also come up short, what, 16 times so far? But love 'em or hate 'em, they do spark interest in the game, and isn’t that what’s really important?
