The Yellow Wallpaper

We just read and discussed the short story “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman in English. One of my classmates says she remembers seeing the movie version of it. I tried to find it on the IMDb but can’t seem to dig it up; does anybody else know anything about it?

Even if you don’t know anything about the movie, what do you think of the storY?

Your friend mught have been talking about the movie Through the Glass Darkly which looks quite interesting.

While Gilman wrote a number of other short stories, TYW is undoubtably the most compelling. I can’t help but think there would have been a happy ending if that poor woman had just had something interesting to read.

I saw an adaptation years ago. Although I remember very few details except for a scene with eyeballs opening up in the wallpaper (very creepy), I found it to be a disturbing and effective study of depression and insanity. Check out this site

There was an episode of Masterpiece Theater that adapted “The Yellow Wallpaper” – I watched it in my high school English class after we read the story. It was fairly faithful to the story, although the setting was changed from America to England.

I did see a short film of this story last year in English class. The film was about 15 min. long. I don’t know haw it was compared to the book, we never read it.
