You Can’t Take it With You was remade for TV several times, most recently in 1984.

The BBC did versions of all of Shakespeare’s plays starting in the late 70s; many of the plays had been filmed previously.

Do TV Miniseries count?

The movie version of Dune was made in 1984 (with big stars such as Sting, Patrick Stewart, and others), and Sci Fi remade it as a miniseries in 2000.

I would point out that many of these were plays before they were movies. The Miracle Worker, 12 Angry Men, Inherit the Wind, The Lion in Winter. (Correct me if I’m wrong.)

And Jesus Christ Superstar was an unstaged musical that was released as an album. Then it hit the stage. Then it was a movie.

Wasn’t the Christopher Reeve version of Rear Window a TV movie? (I don’t recall it being a theatrical release).

This just came up on the remakes thread…

The Music Man (1962) with Robert Preston and Shirley Jones…reappeared on TV in 2003 with Matthew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth. Not an improvement.

The Count of Monte Cristo: 1934 (Robert Donat), then on TV in 1975 (Richard Chamberlain), then 2002 (Jim Caviezel). I haven’t seen the 1934 version, but loved the TV version, and preferred it over the 2002 Jim Caviezel.

That’s how I remember it, and IMDB agrees with us.

Dark Victory was remade with Elizabeth Montgomery and Anthony Hopkins (the original starred Bette Davis).

Ah, and Bad Seed - another Lynn Redgrave TV remake to add to Baby Jane.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three- film in 1974, TV movie in 1998
