… his family members, and the insane. If you are not related to the Gonzales family, and you are still interested in the story, please seek counselling, institutional care, and/or transorbital lobotomy.
Even National Public Radio is obsessed with this turkey. It’s worse than most of the other crap that passes for news.
“Bad weather in another part of the world leaves people homeless, who couldn’t possibly have had any homes before the bad weather, on account of all the bad weather that came before.”
“Gore and Bush still leading for their respective nominations.”
“El Nino, a weather anomoly which has existed for thousands of years, succeeds in surprising people for the fifth consecutive year.”
“Plane crashes.”
“Cuban government and Cuban-Americans disagree on something.”
Dang how amazing are those headlines?! I mean, can you believe it? A plane crashed! That reduces planes from 100 times safer than cars to 99.5 times safer than cars! Gore is beating LaRouche, and Bush is beating Keyes! I’m gonna go down and engrave a commemorative plaque into solid crystal and bury it in a time capsule to preserve this amazing event for all time!
I agree; this story is driving ME up the fucking wall, too.
But you skipped the main group who’s hungering for each hot detail…the rabidly anti-Castro Cuban-American population of Miami. All these pricks and prickettes, descendants of the Batistas and other ruling Havana families who gathered up their skirts and ran for Florida when the revolutionary shit came down, are LOVING this. Another chance to point their shaky fingers at that pusillanimous old fossil Fidel.
God knows why the US media has decided that this clique needs such pandering.
I say we take King Solomon’s solution to this: cut the damn kid in half; send half back to Cuba and keep the other half here. Problem solved, everybody happy.
Ah. Give the kid back and be done with it. I second Boris, I wake up to NPR in the morning and rely on it for my news (Television news sucks…) and am really, REALLY tired of this story.
Although it does piss me off that the family is so obviously not preparing Elian for the trip home, they keep saying they’re expecting an appeal, so they’re not telling him yet…um…
I pissed off a few co-workers in my dept. today that were hotly debating this issue “intelligently.” I walked into an obviously heated discussion about the kid…and said whoa, whoa, hold it a sec!!!
A van full of Mexican Nationals crosses the border…INS catches them, what happens? Now get back to work…and with that I left the room… Ahh hail the beauty of silence
It’s cut and dry, there is no issue here, the kid’s illegal, deport him…case closed.
-SS
If “knowledge is power,” why does stupidity reign?
