I live in central DC, NW, and a few minutes ago heard what I thought was firecrackers, you know the type, the ones that go off rapidly, but then I thought, it’s not the 4th of july, it’s not chinese new year, but of course it’s not a shooting. then i thought, well, if it is I will hear sirens and cops will show up soon. but they didn’t for at least 5 minutes, then I saw flashing blue lights outside my window…
sorry for the poor punctuation and bad sentence structure, but i’m really freaked out right now.
Not a pleasant situation to be close to. I once was driving on a congested Chicago street (Lawrence Ave. in Albany Park) when a bunch of kids came running accross it. You could hear the firecracker sound. There was nowhere to turn around, you couldn’t, of course go forward. I just ducked under the wheel until I could sense the traffic moving.
Hang in there, perhaps it’s an isolated incident. If not, I’d start looking for a new place to live.
I’m impressed. I can’t type at all while hiding under the desk.

Well, there was, I heard, a shooting tonight in Adams Morgan (18th & Kalorama), but I think that was earlier, like 8 o’clock or 8:30. I was a block away and never heard a thing. An off-duty EMT told me some kid got shot in the butt.
Sorry you had to go through that, but try not to worry too much. Chances are very, very good that this’ll be the closest you ever get to being filled full of lead, unless you make it a habit to hang out on street corners selling drugs.
