There was a THING in the sky!

Well, I’m glad you got a glimpse of it last night, 'cause you sure ain’t gonna see it today. During today’s morning commute, it seemed like a submarine would have been a better way of getting to work.

Mmmmmmmm… a planet-sized hunk of fried cheese.

The thing in the sky was too bright to look directly at, so I couldn’t see if there were flying horses or a guy named Helios. That guy drives on the freeways here when it rains, doesn’t he? That’s why the traffic is always so terrible- he can’t control that damn chariot.

I suspect the moon blew up, just to embarrass me for saying it couldn’t. The universe has seemed to be out to get me lately…

Whatever it was, it’s gone now, and we’re back to the usual rain :frowning: Shibb, if you know of some way we can ship you some of our rain, let us know.

Oh my God, we’re all going to die! runs around flailing

I was flailing a little piece of mirror around in the sun, to try to find out if anyone could see it from California. Guess it worked!

Bwauk! The sky is falling! Bwauk!

It’s back to rain here too.

Awesome.

No. Double bonus points and a gift coupon since Cal’s such a bright guy.

What’s the coupon for?

The coupon’s for Anne. You get a rain check.

Yeah, but what’s it for?

If it came from the Hollywood area, it may mean that someone there has actually come up with an idea.

It’s not for anything. That’s the beauty of it.

If you’re serious, that would be the best thing in the entire universe. Next to chocolate cheesecake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and warm socks, of course, but…
Incidentally, it snowed here today. Big, thick, fat flurries. On April 4th. Officially, on the record: wtf?

Yeah, it snowed and rained here (Troy, NY) today. At the same time. It was exceedingly odd. I second your “wtf?” Not because snow is odd this time of year (RPI has had it snow during graduation ceremonies) but because we were duped into thinking it was spring for a while there. Then Mother Nature got all PMS-y and pulled the snow out for another joyride. Also the rain-and-snow-at-the-same-time thing. I didn’t even know that was possible.

It’s for the kids!

I’ll have cheesecake, a la mode. Hold the socks.

I am serious.

And there was that thing in the sky again, all day today! This is giving me ideas. Do you think it might be nice to somehow, I don’t know what you call it, do one’s cooking outdoors should that thing stay up there this Saturday?

Other nice warm-up ideas (and kid-kosher since you burn away the alcohol):

Cremá, ron cremat, queimada: get a low, wide earthenware pot. About two handspans across and one inch high is good. Fill to half height with rhum. Light long safety match over rum, be ready to move hand away and snuff the match without dropping it in! If you refill the pot, remember not to do it while it’s flaming. Wait until it’s done burning before serving. Burnt rhum was invented by fishermen as a way to warm up when they got to port in the wee hours, when it can be pretty nippy even in August. Alternatively, I’ve seen a long candle used instead of the match.

Tortilla al ron: make egg-only omelette (or scrambled eggs); pour rhum; light. Wait until it finishes burning before serving.

Of course observe all necessary fire-related precautions
