I’m not sure how I feel about this. Like someone said in the comments to the trailer, I’m not ready to be sad about him again. I can’t even watch reruns of Kitchen Confidential.
I agree with you completely on that. I liked him so much.

Although it’s not really a biopic. It’s specifically a story of young Bourdain.
I don’t know if I care to see it, honestly. I still don’t watch any of Bourdain’s shows since the day he died. I was very shocked and saddened by his death and he is just one of those people I have never returned to because of his death.
I still can’t believe he ended his own life. He seemed to be very much a person who wants to live life and live it fully and for as long as possible.
The only other example I can think of is Robin Williams, who I also have never gone back to watch any of his stuff since he died. I know he had a disease, but it is just too painful to think that Robin, who made everyone laugh, died by his own hand.
His personal life was in turmoil and he was a serial depressive that had purportedly been having occasional suicidal ideation since forever. He seems like one of those fairly difficult and variably high maintenance people that could love life hugely one moment and be in a bleak pit of despair the next. His suicide seems to have been absolutely spontaneous, which is the worst. Had he not quite gone through with it in another hour he might have been kicking himself about what he had almost done.
Food & Wine had a screening of this film on July 13th, and it received a positive reaction from the attendees, who were all restaurant industry people. If they liked it, I’m willing to give it chance.

The way I deal with watching Bourdain is to go back to the old No Reservations series and watch the ones where I know he was happy, like the Sardinia episode where he visits Ottavia’s family, and early ones in France. There was a time when everything was good in his world and it’s good to be reminded of that.
