I live in a trailer park (Hey, its a nice place and its way cheaper than an apartment!), and I’ve suddenly aquired some very strange neighbors.
Most of the people who live here own their own trailers, and I’m assuming that the people who live next door to me do as well. When I moved in here, the people next door were a retired couple who kept to themselves and never seemed to speak to anyone. They suddenly move out, and my current neighbors move in. There were no “For Sale” signs on the trailer or “For Rent” signs. The old folks moved out, and these folks moved in. That’s odd, because every time someone moves out, there’s always a “For Sale” sign or other posted. This time, nothing. It gets stranger.
There’s two cars parked in the driveway. One is a white limo that has only moved once since they moved in. The other car changes on a nearly daily basis. One day it’ll be an SUV, the next day its a sedan, then a coupe, then a pick up, and so on. The only pattern I can descern of the second cars is that its usually a GM vehicle (though there was a Nissan parked there once) and it never stays longer than two days. I’ve also never seen the same car twice. The only other thing that remains common is that the cars have had in-state tags except for once.
So what the heck could be going on over there? Friends have joked that its an escort service, but I can’t buy that. (It’s possible, but it’d have to be a gay service as I’ve never seen any women over there and I don’t think that there’d be much of a demand for a gay service in this town.) Any ideas?
(PS, if they’re doing anything illegal, I’m not going to rat them out to the cops. They keep to themselves and don’t bother me, plus they cut some of my grass for me!)
If they are, they’re pretty damn clever about it. I’ve never seen anyone carry anything in or out of the place since they moved in. There’s been people going in and out (not many, not often), but none of them have been carrying anything that looked like it could contain drugs.
Again, possible, but unlikely. Few of the cars look like they’d be prime targets for car thieves in that they’re not top of the line models or incredibly expensive. They all do seem to be roughly four to five years old. None of the cars show any major damage (ie no windows broken out, locks drilled, etc.), but if they’re good, that wouldn’t be visible anyways.
I was thinking the same thing as Scarlet>Fire. I had a workmate whose husband worked at a Chrysler dealership. She never drove the same car over two days in a row.
Could be one of them works at a car lot.
Or it could be that Goodfellas have moved in. If so, watch out for the black helicopters.
23skidoo, checked the link and not one of the cars listed in the top 20 for this state showed up there, so it looks like the car theft ring idea is out.
Scarlet>Fire, what kind of company has 60 different cars? And why would they show up here just once? They can’t be a legit used car dealer, I don’t think, because none of the cars have had a dealer tag on them (all car dealers have a special “dealer tag” they slap on cars for test drives, etc.), so it looks like that’s out as well.
Might be some kind of Fed sting operation or something, but I dunno. Puzzles the hell out of me whatever it is, I admit that.
I’ve very nearly done that, and gotten a “we do not wish to be disturbed” vibe from them, so I didn’t bother trying to pursue the conversation any farther. Also, I was accosted by one of those magazine selling college kids who told me that those folks had informed her they were “just visiting.” Huh? If you’re “just visiting,” then why did the previous residents move their belongings out? (Watched 'em do it!) If you’re “just visiting” then where are the previous residents?
I’ve seen a guy carry a half-pound bag of marijuana down the front of his pants before - if they are storing drugs you probably wouldn’t see them carry anything conspicuous.
Badtz Maru, having known some smugglers in the past (and stashed a thing or two in my pants before :D), I certainly don’t expect to see them carrying in huge bags labeled “Pot,” “Cocaine,” or something similar. They don’t strike me as being drug smugglers as they don’t give off that “vibe.” I just can’t see how the could be efficiently smuggling anything in or out of the place as its rare that anyone ever goes in or out of it.
Of course, they could be smuggling something that’s very small and highly valuable (like diamonds), but why do it here? There’s plenty of places not too far from here one could go and not have any neighbors at all. I’d think that’d be the ideal place to conduct such an operation.
The limo makes me wonder if they work for a family-run taxi service. If they don’t get a lot of requests for a limo, maybe it just sits around. I think most larger companies assign one car per driver, but if it’s a smaller company, maybe they just drive home whichever car they picked up from the pool that day. Do the tags in your state have a special code for livery?
Although, the “do not disturb” vibe probably points towards drugs, at least in my overactive imagination.
Well, the limo looks to be about 15 to 20 years old (though it is in good shape) and is only a single stretch. Most of the limos around here are triple stretch and only a couple of years old (and we’ve got more of those damn Lincoln Navigator limos than you can shake a hooker at). I just can’t imagine that its for some kind of livery service (no special tags for that in this state, unless the limo used is an SUV or pick up version).
The whole thing that bugs me about all of this is that nothing clearly says what they are or aren’t doing.
I think if you want to learn any more, Tuckerfan, you’re going to have to take a day off from work and follow them discreetly when they leave home one morning. See where they go.
Or…I’d bet a very high-quality parabolic microphone would be able to “hear” through the walls of their trailer. They’re expensive, but maybe you could rent one for just long enough to gather the 411.
I dunno, I think this sounds like the most plausible explaination. Unfortunatly it’s also very boring.
So…it’s their job to round up all the abandon cars after the occupants have been abducted by aliens. The aliens gave them the Cadillac as a bonus for their good work.
