They #$()&@ canceled Drive!?

I was there for The Captain. The show was pretty meh.

Yeah yeah, ratings, money, blah blah blah. WHAT THE FUCK WAS IN THE SAFE DEPOSIT BOX?

Nathan helped but I thought the premise, cheesy as it was, was fun.

I watched solely for people I liked: primarily Nathan, but also Melanie Lynskey. We saw an ad go by in FF, and noticed Nathan Fillion, so we backed up to watch, and we pretty much said, “Boy is that going to suck - let’s watch it anyway.”

I have to agree that Fox is not to blame. The show was alternately preposterous and boring, in addition to being a blatant attempt to rip off Lost. If something sinks to the bottom of the ratings, and has little artistic merit to promise future greatness, how can they keep it on?

I’m still mad on general principles when Whedonites get shitcanned, but here it’s more a generalized frustration, rather than anger at the network per se.

Well, considering that FOX forced the dumping of the original Tully and made them hite Nathan Fillion, I wonder how many of you wouldn;t have bothered to tune in at all. Sooo…FOX makes an (arbitrary) decision that makes people very happy, but no praise. FOX makes a very wise and sensible business decision (stop with the “give it time to grow” talk. It LOST viewers. Millions. Lost them. That’s, ya’know, the opposite of growing) and all they get is grief.

Drive was a failure. They promoted it for months - last year I was seeing promos for it; they didn’t even have a date set. It was promoted in movie theaters, for heaven’s sake. I don’t know about print ads, maybe the whole thing would have cracked right open if they had a full page ad in Entertainment Weekly, I don’t know. But they did everything they could do. I read (I think on these boards) that even Nathan Fillion was disappointed with the turnout, blogging something along the lines of “the fans abandoned me.”

I said this before, I liked it; I was invested. It happens. I can’t begin to tick off the number of shows that I loved that were killed. But that’s how it works, people. I cannot expect a network to subsidize a failure in every sense of the word.

I waited seven years for new Doctor Who, and FOX stabbed me in the back. Had to wait nine more years, but now it’s beyond huge again. You never know what might happen.

I didn’t abandon Captain Tightpants. I love Captain Tightpants! I’ve watched him since “Two Guys and a Girl”. I went to see that really weird mutants movie. I almost gave up on “Lost” but then he was in a episode. I watched every second of “Drive” even though I think it would have been much better if it was more *Deathrace 2000 * and less soap opera drivel. I try so hard <sniff> but there’s only so much I can do.

Boring? Really? I found every single commercial break to be a cliffhanger. OK, the sick father thread was kind of a snoozer. But I kept coming back for more.

I found it instantly addicting, about ten times as much as 24. I’m surprised it did so poorly.

Oh, I didn’t know this! Who was the original Tully?

Having never watched Drive, I can only assume it has something to do with the power of Anita Barone’s bosom.

You don’t know the power of Anita Barone’s bosom.

No, that’s The War at Home. Now that it is no longer sandwiched between two shows that I watch, even MILF Anita’s bosom can’t bring me back.

Now if it were Jennifer Tilly’s bosom, then I would be back.

Oh, that guy! I’ve thought of him as anything other than a pretty boy. Good move, ditching him.

My wife just makes horse noises everytime Audrey’s on-screen. I haven’t gotten a chance to watch this week’s episode yet. Any chance they’ve turned her into glue and used it to stop the bad guys in their tracks?

As to the comment about not seeing commercials for “Drive,” I have to echo Zakalwe’s thoughts. I don’t see how you could possibly have avoided them. For the past couple of months, it’s gotten to the point where I could swear I’d seen ads for the show on other networks.
