Fox TV Scheduling

Alright listen you fucktards. You obviously have a monkey with ADD in charge of deciding which shows to keep and which to cancel. Let’s review.

Firefly - Made it 14 episodes before the plug was fully pulled. Sure 2 were never aired. Sure the ones which were aired were out of order, misadvertised, and generally fucked all to hell. But you cancelled it. The fandom rose up and in one motion gave you a big motherfucking middle finger, and went on to make history by raising the dvd sales so high that you made a FUCKING movie. No the movie didn’t do well but again, it’s because the movie got made and was hardly advertised.

How about Wonderfalls? Another cult classic. 13 episodes. Meanwhile a few copycat shows go on to do very well. Hmmm imagine that. You kill a show early on and then find out that the formula works. Oops. Asshats pay attention.

Oooh this one, The Tick. Yet another cult classic show. Oh? It didn’t do well? Patrick Warburton was too big for your teeny weeny little cameras? Or did he just make you feel inadequate? So you only made 9 episodes. Yeah, nine. Do you see a pattern forming here? I sure as fuck do.

Family Guy - Here’s one you gave some love. 50 episodes in its first incarnation then you guys give it the axe. Yep 50 whole animated episodes. So then, yet again, the fandom rises up in one voice to proudly proclaim “FUCK YOU DICKWAD” and then you guys go “Oh you really want this, okay, here’s more.”

Futurama - Ahhh Fry. Great cartoon. Followed the same pattern as Family Guy except you gave them 72 episodes before the fans again went “LISTEN YOU SONS OF STD INFECTED WHORES, WE WANT MORE.” So you go alright, we’ll go halfsies with you all. Well fuck you very much.

How about Dark Angel. Jim Cameron and Jessica Alba. And you fucking end the series with a “To be continued”!? That’s against the law in many countries. In fact, if I become President of the USA, I will personally prosecute you for treason for such an act. How does that make sense?

And the latest example, Drive. Another Tim Minear creation. You bought into the show. You knew it would be expensive and you knew it would be character driven. And yet you cancel it after three episodes with two waiting in the wings. Did you expect instant success? Are you so money hungry that House reruns are more enticing than offering a new show? How the FUCK does this make sense???

There is a very clear message here. The message is that Fox is a network which doesn’t care about the quality of shows put out, it cares about shows which make them not just sums of money, but gobs of it. Gobs of money immediately. And yet the recent track record shows that most shows which are immediate successes quickly peter out with a few notable exceptions.

My question to you, oh retarded network, what exactly does the crystal ball of yours say? What do you see when you’re high on your drugs that makes you think that three episodes is a clear picture of the worth of a show?

I’m done. Even my man love for Gregory House is not enough for me to continue to put up with you. You think that you can disrespect your fans by ending a show so early? You have no respect for fans. You only see one thing, money. Well FUCK YOU.

Amen!

What the FUCK are they doing over there?

I have to say, I don’t think it is money that is making them do this though.

How exactly does producing 5 (?) episodes of a very expensive, fairly well promoted TV show, and then pulling the plug after 3 weeks make them any money?

This isn’t about money, this is about…fear? Stupidity? But if it was just about money they wouln’t have bought the show in the first place.

Either way… they are fuckwads.

If I see a show I like on Fox, all I do is hope that it’s eventually released on DVD, as my shelf of Undeclared, Firefly, Arrested Development, Greg the Bunny, and Wonderfalls DVD sets can attest.

Are there known members of the FOX executive branch who are members of the Dope?
No?
Then I am within the rules if I wish a festering, pustulent death on every single person responsible for the cancellation of Firefly, Wonderfalls, The Tick, Drive, and all the shows they will do this to in the future.

As long as they’re up, is it okay if I cuss out the Fox programming people for making it take so long to get season 3 of The Venture Bros. made and on the air?

Yeah, I know they’re not involved in that show, but come on, they’re handy.

I demand more Greg the Bunny!

Brimstone was my favorite show in the “Killed by Fox in the Cradle” category. Asshats.

I was pissed when they did this with The Wedding Bells a few weeks ago.

On a positive note, I’ve been meaning to pick up Firefly on DVD or Netflix it or something for awhile - I found the complete series for $20 at Target today, so I bought it. I’ve watched half of Serenity, ep 1, and I’m hooked. I was wondering why I never watched it when it was on, but then I realized that Fox had fucked with it, and I probably had no idea it was ever on in the first place.

I’m not sure how long it’ll take me to get through all fourteen episodes, but I’m guessing not long.

Bleh - Is that the one with the lead actress giving a blow job? -Bleh

FOX is in the business of making money.
Right now, they’ll get more people to watch a House re-run than to watch drive - which means more money.

If more people had watched Drive, then it would not have been cancelled. Blame your fellow Americans.

It was you, wasn’t it? I blame amarinth for this cancellation.

Get a rope.

Blame my fellow Americans??? The show had been on for 3 episodes! First off, the show is one of the goal oriented shows, like Lost, BSG, Heroes, etc… Those take more than 3 episodes to properly lay out action and progress. Lost hooked people because it gave only questions and no answers in the first episode. BSG took a miniseries to hook people. Heroes took at least 3 episodes just to introduce everyone. How can FOX decide that in 3 episodes a show isn’t worth pursuing?

Secondly, they knew this going in. There’s no way that they didn’t test market it to audiences and the test markets must have only been luke warm if they cancelled it after 3 episodes. But if they’re so hell bent on making money, why even broadcast it if the test audiences didn’t rave, that’s obviously what they were looking for.

Urgh, I’m really frustrated by this. Another show down the drain.

Amen! This always happens with Fox. They’re evil. I would be more angry, but the OP had to go and mention House and man-love and now I’m all distracted.

I think that the execs at Fox are actually from England. I mean, over there, 13 episodes is, like, two full seasons!

I still miss The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.! It premiered the same night as The X-Files back in the '90s, and I watched both with my dad and told him “Always bet on Bruce Campbell. This show will be a hit, but the sad-looking FBI agents… not so much.”

Because one fourth of the original viewers had decided in less than three episodes that they didn’t want to pursue the show.

Heroes first three outings had the following ratings:
First episode: 14.29 million viewers
Second episode: 12.57 million viewers
Third episode: 13.31 million viewers

Lost:
First episode: 18 milllion viewers
Second episode: 17 million viewers
Third episode: 16.6 million viewers

Drive:
First episode: 6.04 million viewers (that’s less than half of Heroes, one third of LOST)
Second episode: 5.66 million
Third episode: 4.6 million

That sucks. Even for FOX that sucks.
It might take time to generate an audience, but Drive was down 25% from not all that many people in the first place. Plus, it wasn’t a cheap show to make.

I liked Drive. It was fun. I was one of those 4 million watching the final episode. If it had lasted another week, I would have been one of the 3 million who turned in for that. But it makes complete sense that FOX doesn’t want to throw good money after bad in for a show that people either didn’t watch or didn’t want to watch again.

It might make complete sense if I didn’t know how many really good shows they cancelled through mismanagement. Firefly had a 2hr premiere episode that they showed as a series finale instead. They’ll take a show people love, put it on Sunday at 7:00 so it is constantly pre-empted by football, then cancel it.

You don’t often see shows cancelled by the other 3 networks get a groundswell of support resulting in movies and restarting of production.

Heh.

For GtB fans, I recommend checking out “Puppets Who Kill”. Very funny R-Rated version of GtB.
