Yes. It’s that time of year again. The Asian Lady Beetles have arrived. At least they have in my neck of the woods in west central Indiana.
As of today, they are swarming everywhere in my area. Outside, and inside.
I don’t know why the love our house so much, but it’s been like this for the past decade.
Our vacuum cleaner won’t get any rest until they finally just go away, which will be in a few weeks. Until that time, I’ll be vacuuming them up nearly constantly. Day and night. It’s easier at night, when I can turn on one light. They seem to love to go to the light. That’s when I get a lot of them. Otherwise, they hang out in and around the windows, and I’ll nab them when they land in those areas, too. We have caulked everywhere we can possibly caulk, and repaired any areas that look like a bug could get through. Nothing keeps them out. It makes me want to scream.
The cats are having a BIG time with them. They’re getting more exercise with the Asian Lady Beetles than they get with the laser. Of course, that means that I have to cat-proof the house. Especially around the lights and the windows, because the cats run like mad to try to catch them, and will demolish anything in their path. The bugs even taste horrible, according to the experts (I do not know this for a fact, because I refuse to chomp on one, because, well…It’s a bug for Og’s sake! Ew!). Yet, the cats will catch one, chomp on it, spit it out, and shake their little, furry heads, trying to get the nasty taste to go away.
Then, they’ll go after another one. Repeatedly. Stupid cats.
Asian Lady Beetles are the bane of my existence right now.
