THEY TOOK OUR BID!

After five years together and three years married, **WE’VE GOT A HOUSE!!!

Yee-Hah!
Woo-hoo!
**

1450 sq.ft., .7 acre lot, 3 bedrooms - split bedroom plan (MBR opposite end of house from other BRs), 2 full baths, 10 ft ceilings in common area (kitch, din, liv), fireplace, double sink vanity (thank GOD…), garden tub (wife is sooo happy), 12x15 MBR, large back deck, brick front, masonite sides/back, cement driveway, no city taxes.

We’re already approved for a mortgage (estimate $1K/mo), the inspection scheduled for this Wed., closing on Jan 15.

We’re deleriously excited… been crushed into 800 sq.ft. basement apartment for past 6 mos. Wife was very unhappy 'coz we don’t have any room to put up Christmas decorations. Not even a tree. New place we’ll be able to put up a TEN FOOT Christmas tree!!

It’s kinda out in the boonies, but we realized that’d prolly be the case. Only way to afford what we wanted. Plus we wanted to be near her parents (getting older, chronic health problems), and she’s got other friends/family out that way, too.

Okay, so we’ll be planning the Doper’s housewarming party for sometime late January.

“Honey, can you cook for 1143 of our Straight Dope friends? What do you mean ‘They’re MY Straight Dope friends’?”

Allright, we’ll be having Vienna sausages (one each! These things don’t grow on trees, y’know!) and B.Y.O.B.

I’ll keep posting reports on the progress of moving in, starting homemaking tasks, etc., if anybody’s interested.

Congrats Tygr! I remember how incredibly happy my parents were when we moved into our first “house” that “we” built.

Once again, congrats.

I am so jealous. I’m still living in a townhouse. With my credit rating, I’ll probably be renting until the day I die.

Congratulations anyway!

Whew, for a minute I thought someone outbid ya.

Woo-hoo! Good stuff.

Where’s the party?

Yaaaaaaay Tygr!

Where do you live now?

Yeeeeehaw, Tygr!

Just bought a house myself, a few months ago. Man, it’s a good feeling!

Well, duh, it’s at our house, you silly!

iampunha: We live on the other side of Raleigh (Cary). Gettin’ pretty tired of it - Town of Cary has VERY high property taxes, not to mention a lot of homeowner regulations.

To make matters worst, there’s been a HUGE business boom here in the past ten years. Big companies, IBM, Glaxo, Nortel, lotsa others growing in the Research Triangle Park. A lot of that growth takes the form of YANKEES relocating here. Guess which town they relocate to? Containment Area for Relocated Yankees! At least in the east side of the county we’ll be able to get decent barbecue.

Persephone: Oh, yeah… Mrs. Tygr and I are on cloud 9. Thanks for the rebel yell, I have a feeling we’re gonna be hearing plenty of them in our new locale.

…and congrats to you, too! I didn’t see any posts about that while I was on my quest, else I’d ‘a’ mentioned it!

WHOOPS!WHOOPS!WHOOPS!

Before I get flamed, that whole “Yankee” business was supposed to have a smilie to go with it.

I like Yankees. Some of my best friends are Yankees. I’m half Yankee. Three-quarters, really.

Of course, a Northerner who visits the South is a Yankee. A Northerner who stays is a DAMN Yankee.

Sorry, but we’re VERY happy, and this is my equivalent of shouting from the rooftops.

Just indulge a humble newbie, please?

When I say I want orange, damn it, I mean I WANT ORANGE!!! Those stocking-clad pus people sure do piss me off. But whenever I cant get the television out of my ass, I just go around saying, “Diddly diddly, knucky-wap PHOOSH!”. Nipple-twisting bastards.

Well you wanted me to respond, Tygr!!! Oh, btw…congrats again.

Hey Tygr,

Just read your question in Lissa’s thread. I’ve been on both sides (selling and buying) and each time, there was just one attorney. It’s really not that complicated and, in fact, the attorney is usually chosen by (and technically represents) the buying party. The paperwork that they fill out, the filing that they do, just about everything seems pretty standardized. Now this was in AL and just in our case. I don’t know if this is the standard or not.

I can’t say enough about the whole inspection, though. We were buying a house that was only four years old and still got an inspection. It didn’t point out any problems, but did give us a “heads up” to potential problem areas.

It’ll be a time of big stress, the closing and all, but it is very satisfying in the end. Hope this helps.
