Hm. Well, that’s unfortunate, although I don’t imagine HD would be very happy at the idea of paying for a gay MDMA party, so there’s that. Alright, unless something brilliant occurs to me in the next few days, I think I’ll just call it for Planned Parenthood.
Planned Parenthood was one of my first choices in another thread, along with the ACLU. The only other suggestion I have is the Union for Concerned Scientists.
OK, final resolution: I couldn’t decide between the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, or the Sierra Club, so I decided to let Ditka himself decide which of these fine organizations he would most like to support! I look forward to hearing his choice.
Thing Fish, thanks for the generosity of letting me choose from among your finalists. That’s an easy choice for me, I’ll be donating to the ACLU.
As for the actual mechanics of the donation, does anyone have a handy link to make the donation? And Thing Fish suggested I use the name Hurricane Ditka and send his email a copy of the confirmation email. I’m not sure what the tax implications are if I use a name other than my real name. Does anyone know if I can still claim the tax deduction if I do that?
If you donate to a local affiliate of the ACLU, you can simply call the development person who can walk you through options for giving your name, etc.
When DesertWife and I were married, we specified no presents – “we already have enough stuff” – and suggested a donation to their favorite charity in our name, if they insisted. Since we were active in the Libertarian party one of our Democrat friends smirked that he was going to donate to the Democrats. I just replied, “If you consider them a charity, I won’t quibble.”
This would certainly be acceptable to me.
