One of the selling points of my bank was “we’re open until six on Fridays!” Which was great until they decided that they’d rather close at five on Fridays and be open until seven on Thursdays. The only people I know who get paid on TH instead of F are people with direct deposit, so who the hell is this supposed to be benefiting?
I’m more than happy with my credit union for the most part, but their online bill payment system does almost everything by paper check. I can understand having to do that if the person you’re paying is someone like a landlord, or a dry cleaner that allows you to run a tab, or so forth. But with these guys, even payments to the gas and electric company, or the auto finance lender, are done by paper check.
It does get deducted from your account right away, so that part’s OK. But it takes up to seven business days to reach the payee.
Snort. Heh, good one.
What really pissed me off was when US Bank charged me $3.00 for using an out of network ATM. I fully expected the foreign ATM to charge me the stated $1.75 fee, but why in the earth should US Bank charge that ridiculous fee?
My bank charges me if I walk into the bank to see a teller for transactions that could be done at the ATM. Except that they ac tually charge me any time I walk in, no matter what the transaction is. Thus when I went in to get traveler’s checks, and got charged a fee, I called them and pointed out to them that there really isn’t any way for me to get traveler’s checks out of the ATM. Duh. I guess they just charge you no matter what and hope that you don’t notice.
And if you have the gall to ask them about those fees, they charge another fee for the priviledge of talking to them!
I’m looking forward to the much shorter sequel thread, Things Banks Do That Don’t Piss People Off.
You people know that there are still more than one bank in your area, right?
I had a bank move from a very convenient location to another a half hour away. So I closed the account and went to a different bank.
If a bank charged me for making a transaction, I’d withdraw my money so fast it’d catch fire.
Why do you stand for such shabby treatment?
Yeah, my bank rocks. No fee for using out of network ATM, no fee for online anything, no monthly fee at all, pretty much fee free unless I make a mistake an overdraw.
Hell, every bank I have ever had (all three of 'em) have been exactly like this. How do you people put up with banks that don’t do this? FTR, one of these banks was local, but the last two (Key and Charter One (now Citizen’s)) are nation-wide.
Oh, I also have a credit union, but so far only have jsut over $25 in it and just opened it to get a car loan.
Why I’m never going to use my old bank again:
Someone got ahold of my account information and used it to try to steal about $25000.
After discovering this because my account had been locked (while attempting to pay my bills!), I go and get things cleared up.
A couple weeks later, I get a message that I’ve been cleared, yadda, yadda.
But my account’s still locked.
I ended up owing them $280 - that, and the about $150 of my money that was in the account when it was locked went bye-bye in fees before they closed the account - or unlocked it.
I refused to pay, eventually relented when it was taken down to $130. Still more than the bastards deserve, but not worth the effort of protesting further.
