Thanks to my Native American genealogy, I have a pretty light beard. That’s why it took me over 50 years to get one to actually grow in :p. A quarter size dollop of shaving cream is all it took, I was never one for a 2-inch deep layer of foam like the commercials show. I also dried the blade after each use. It’s not so much wear that dulls the blade, but oxidation. Drying the blade after each use greatly extends the life of the razor.
I liked Kraft mac & cheese (well, the spirals) over “real” mac & cheese. Really, though, I like any regular (no ham or garlic or onion, etc.) macaroni and cheese that is not baked over one that is baked. I like the more liquidy nature of it.
I like Jenos frozen pizzas over the pricier brands. I thought Totino’s would be the same, but it wasn’t. And I never see Jeno’s anymore.
Yes, I completely agree with the people who mentioned that Hershey’s milk chocolate, or any non-fancy chocolate is much better than that nasty-ass 90% cacao crap. I have that same problem, too- I love chocolate and when people pick up on that, they give me ultra-fancy expensive chocolate as a gift. Gross.
Also I’d pick a mutt at the shelter over a purebred dog any day. Fewer health problems, and I like the fact that my dog is unique in all the world. A purebred dog looks exactly the same as every single other individual of his breed. How boring.
I drink a lot of different beers but will happily drink Miller High Life.
I also like cheap washcloths, like the 10 packs you can get at Walmart.
You only drink one? At its’ price point, you should easily afford multiple High Lives.
I actually like the store-brand versions of Chips Ahoy cookies sold in Kroger and Walmart.
I was a devoted Barbasol user until I was staying at a friend’s house and tried some Aveeno I found in the bathroom. I was amazed to discover that I wasn’t bleeding from a half-dozen places after shaving.
Sometimes, it used to be dirty work. I’ve heard that when they first came out, the contents would occasionally splatter all over the kitchen. Never happened to me personally; however, I use the wimpy method of pressing a knife into the can’s seam.
I’m another fan of Red Heart yarn. The $30 a skein hand dyed stuff is great for a lot of things but Red Heart has its’ place as well. Especially if I’m making a blanket for a kid. Red Heart washes and dries well. I made some potholders for my mom out of Red Heart and she still has them 20+ years later.
I also like cheap washcloths (great to exfoliate) and “thwock biscuits” (as we grew up calling them because you “thwock” the tube against the counter).
Also at Walmart: the 6-packs of Hanes underwear. I’ve had more expensive, better-looking underwear purchased from fancier places, but it neither wears better nor is more comfortable than the Hanes.
I much prefer crunchy Chips Ahoy cookies to any sort of fancy chocolate chip cookie.
Same with cupcakes. My wife likes these expensive gourmet cupcakes. My favorite cupcakes are the hostess chocolate cupcakes with the white squiggle across them.
Folgers instant over any fancy brewed coffees. Generic cereal always tastes better to me. It’s probably all the extra sugar.
Aveeno really is the best. I agree that there’s a difference. Especially the “for sensitive skin” variety.
Where I live there are always little bars and fancy little restaurants opening up that hype up their house burgers as the best burger in the borough. When I get around to trying them they tend to be fine or even good, but last year I tried a Shake Shack cheeseburger for the first time and that is really much closer to my burger ideal and one I’m far more likely to crave than any fancy burger.
Part of that may be the difference between very dark high cacao percentage chocolates and milk chocolate. Have you had a say… 35% or 40% cacao milk chocolate before? They’re kind of a revelation if you’re a Hershey’s or Cadbury fan. The best way I can describe it is as a more intense chocolate, without getting into the bitterness, acidity and weirdness of the high percentage dark chocolates.
(I’m not a fan of the high cacao chocolates either, but I do love me some high cacao milk chocolate)
Here’s an example of what I’m talking about:
Yes. And Little Debbie Nutty Bars are the food of the gods.
I know that Totino’s uses artificial cheese. Does Jeno’s use real cheese?
Ooh, ooh, thought of another one! Oreos are good, Hydrox (the original) are better, but I like any generic or store brand version just fine. The savings are so great, I guess I really like them better than Oreos. However, when they go stale and lose their crispiness, all of them lose their appeal to me.
I find the new Golden Oreos amusing- many other manufacturers have been cranking out excellent versions of vanilla sandwich cookies for decades. Why did Nabisco take so long to make those, or did they make them , but without the Oreo name?
Somebody upthread mentioned Chips Ahoy crunchy cookies. That reminds me of Sunday school when I was a kid- we had these tiny, crunchy cookies in different shapes. All of them had bits of “chocolate” in them and they all tasted the same. Those were great!
Wieners. Not all-beef, or Hebrew National, or any other high-priced ones. If it’s made of animal parts they’d rather not name, that’s what I want.
A recent study concludes that “wieners” are made mostly from the abscesses, granulomas, hematomas and tumors (both benign and malignant) of common varmints. Bon appetite.
I dislike the taste and texture of fruit. There are a few things I can tolerate for nutrition’s sake. But I like artificial fruit flavors. I’ll never eat a real orange or banana, but I love a roll of Lifesavers loaded with all those tasty synthetic fruit esters.
