Things That Are Not Food Being Treated As Food

Was it the same pounds?

There are those who treat wasabi as a condiment and those who treat it as a test of manhood.

I will eat all of the wasabi I can get my hands on. Strangely, I don’t care that much for sushi.

I don’t believe that kale is a real food. It’s too tough to chew, so how are you supposed to eat it? I have attempted to eat kale, but it was not an enjoyable experience. I also think broccoli stalks don’t qualify as food. They aren’t edible and should not be sold as food.

Unpeeled cucumbers :cucumber:

I don’t consider the skin food. It tastes nasty and is tough to chew.

I like peeled cucumbers in salads.

I am still batting 1.000. Cooked properly, broccoli stalks are better than the florets.

Had roasted Brussels Sprouts as part of my dinner tonight. Delicious.

I had deep fried brussel spouts at happy hour this afternoon. Crispy leaves covered in sweet basalmic, goat cheese, and crumbled bacon. Definitely NOT my mom’s vegetable recipe.

Same with Fruitcake. Like a Christmas Wreath you can hang on the door. Who named it that, anyway? Marginally ‘Fruit’. In no way ‘Cake’.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t like eggplant. I think it tastes like mud, and yes, I have tried baba ganoush, and thought that tasted like spicy mud. Maybe it’s one of those genetic things, like cilantro (which, BTW, I like)?

I have never liked ketchup, although I do like salsa and BBQ sauce which contain many of the same ingredients, or coffee, and can detect either in microscopic amounts in food.

I have some Necco Wafers in my refrigerator (kept them there so I wouldn’t keep grabbing them out of the cupboard and eating them) and circus peanuts are fine, in moderation, like, oh, once a year or so.

I like broccoli stalks, but only raw in a chopped salad. If the florets are found within 3 feet of my mouth, I have a hard time eating anything on my plate. The smell alone makes me uncomfortable in a “slight gagging” sort of manner.

I can make Eggplant edible! Bow down and worship me!

Its mostly bacon grease and fun seasoning. But the bacon…

Good Tempura Chefs can make it outstanding

Is your refrigerator door harder to open than your cabinet door?

I move things away from temptation by putting them into the upper cabinet’s top shelf where I can’t see or reach them and then forgot them for years

Thinly sliced cucumbers are great in salads, but I’ve never even heard of anyone peeling them. The skin is an insignificant portion of the slice, and I can’t even say whether it’s good or bad, it’s more that it’s unnoticeable. All I get is the nice cool crunch of cucumber.

The eggplant hostility here is baffling to me. I get that unlike here, they’re not one of you basic food groups, but they’re so mild and subtle tasting that I have a hard time understanding the hostility towards them.

0.947, you got me.

I have to peel cucumbers when I make refrigerator pickles. Hubby doesn’t like the peel.

He only eats cucumbers if they are pickled. If they are in a salad, peeled or unpeeled, they will be set to the side.

Good fruitcake exists. Collin Street Bakery (also famous for embezzlement) is packed full of dried fruit and pecans, with just enough batter to hold it all together. Southern Supreme fruitcake is next on my list to try. I know someone who makes black cake, but I haven’t been lucky enough to try that. Just don’t buy fruitcake from Walmart.

I like grandma candy, and I will pay money for Necco wafers, circus peanuts, and candy corn. I love the pink wintergreen candy, so I was happy when it finally came back after Necco went out of business.

Well, who isn’t ???
