Evidently, there are entire web pages devoted to jaffles
what’s not a staple in my house? solid human food.
First, I think you wanted this to be the link: Jaffles
Second, from going to that page, I still have no idea what in the hell a jaffle is, other than a vaguely hotpocketish shaped blob.
Well, nothing meat, egg, or dairy related.
No peanut butter - dear Og, this stuff grosses me out.
Nothing canned, save for chickpeas.
Nothing in tins.
Hmm, I’m a single vegan who shops at the local market for each day’s meal, so I don’t really have any staples, come to think of it. I’ve got spices, some fancy vinegars and oils, flour, and the above-mentioned chickpeas. I don’t keep around anything that could actually turn into a meal without a trip to the store. On the plus side, I eat a lot of fresh goodness… on the downside, there’s nothing to nosh on when I stumble out of bed, raging hangover, desparatly needing unhealthy delicious munchie food. Perhaps I should look into this “buying food in advance” thing…
Jaffles are like sealed toasted sandwiches.
You use this cast iron contraption. Butter your bread, put buttered side down on jaffle iron. Layer onion, spam, tomato and cheese on top, then put another slice of buttered bread on top (butter side up). Close the iron, trim the edges of the bread and place on flame, turning after a few minutes. Once browned, let cool for a few minutes, then indulge in jaffley goodness.
Mmmmmm
That’s a jaffle? I’ve made those for years. They sell machines to do it in the U.S. (but they sure aren’t called jaffle machines). It’s a glorified grilled cheese.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re gooooooooooddddd. Branch out to things like tomato paste, mozarella cheese, onions, and pepperoni.
I thought I wa the only person who’s parent ever said, “No you can have that you’ll only eat it!” Never made sense to me…
My Granny-in-law thinks that if you have bread, butter, milk, flour, sugar, cheese and eggs, that you have NO reason to go to the store. Bizare.
No coffe (or television) in my house! We don’t beieve in either. ( But i do sneak a cappaccino sometimes)
