Things that make you say "What is up with that!"

Here’s one of mine; Those T.V. political ads where the dude says “I’m so and so and I approved this message” Well duh! we just watched you tell us your message!

Err…I think I can tell you what’s up with that. It’s a requirement now…so that Mr. Candidate can’t fund an ad saying Mr. Opposingcandidate beats his wife and fucks his dog and then distance himself from it and claim he “would never go negative”.

I mean, somebody else could be running an anti-Opposingcandidate ad…or what have you…but if it’s Mr. Candidate he has to fess up to it.

Yeah, pretty much what betenoir said. I’ve been around long enough (I’m 46) that I’ve seen and heard a LOT of nasty political ads, and when a particularly bad one had a lot of backlash, the politician would often try to deny that s/he had approved of that ad, that the ad campaign or the workers had put the ad out without his/her knowledge and approval of that particular ad. I’m guessing that the OP is fairly young, in the teens or twenties, and is just becoming politically aware.

Frankly, I think it’s a great thing that politicians are being held responsible for their election ads’ content.

Exactly!
When the ads first started airing here in Iowa ( we had the first primary in the nation ) I thought this.

The controversy over gay marriage. I don’t see how it COULD be illegal…

What is up with THAT?!

I’d like to see the rule broadened to apply to more people, like televangelists.
“I’m Jesus, and I approved this message.”

Yes, and a split second later, a lightening bolt turns him/her into a cinder
“yooooowwwch!” screen fades to black.

I can’t **stand ** TV evangelists!

EXACTLY

And if for some reason they find they can’t obtain his endorsement they should stop pretending to speak for him.

Amen

'Twas part of McCain-Feingold, or was part of the suite of enabling legislation which was passed as a result of M-F. Keeps (ostensibly) parties from passing along all the extra hard money they’re getting.

Durring the week the Sci-Fi channel will play mini-marathons of various shows.(daytime) Only except what they will do is they will play part two of a show like say Sliders and never play part one.

Its like; how could the boys in programing POSSIBLY think this is OK to do?
