I think it was implying that Anna Benson, former wife of former MLBer Kris Benson, was sleeping with the team. You can find more on the two of them and their checkered story pretty easily.
Anyway, since Anna and the team weren’t going to be plowing thru any more mattresses, there was no longer a ‘need’ to have an ‘official’ Pittsburgh Pirates mattress.
