Plenty of people do hear the words “boyfriend” and “girlfriend,” applied to others or to their own relationship, as meaning either actual youth, or else a lack of commitment and maturity. From the other thread,

Well, “you” is already the plural form, so we should really be saying “thou” for the singular form. Or to get really picky, we should just use “ye” as the nominative plural.
