Things that thieves aren't likely to steal

I used to have a moped that was such a poor quality I overheard someone say they wouldn’t even try to steal it. I used to think prescription eyeglasses would be a rare thing to steal because it’s only useful to the owner and has little resale value. However, I recently saw a craigslist ad from somebody who said the thief that robbed her apartment took her eyeglasses too. Toupee’s also probably have little or no value to anyone else. Bicycle seats are far more likely to be stolen around here than bicycles.

What do you think no thief would try to steal?

Just my personal experience: knives. My house was burglarized years back and they took my two guns and broke my piggy bank. But they left my pocket knife collection worth $3000.

Books.

I rode a bike to high school for a little while. It was a girl’s three-speed. Someone stole the lock and chain and left the bike. Although I suspect it was just to show off how easy it was to pick that kind of barrel combination lock.

A Rottweiler.
A Gravestone.
An outhouse.

If thieves broke into a house, I don’t think they’d steal:

Anvils.

Not sure if this counts - but in college in 1970, we endeavored to steal a port-a-potty so we could reassembled it in the basement of our party house to use as a cool venue for the beer keg. It proved tremendously difficult to disassemble (my assigned task being to hold the extra screwdrivers). I believe we either had too much tequila or not quite enough, because we quit about half way through and only took the door. That was proudly displayed for several years, however.

Thief.

A friend of mine’s husband has an ancient VW bus that barely runs. She’s been trying to get him to sell it for years, but he won’t. She left it sitting out on the streets of Portland unlocked, with the keys in the ignition, for a week. Nobody took it.

So, a VW bus.

No one will steal my laserdisc player. It is 16 pounds and obsolete technology

Supposedly, stickshift cars. One of the reasons I keep buying them.

I’ll bet it’s not that old. If it’s the old old style with the split windshield, those things are appreciating like crazy. Just how bad of shape is it in?

Yep, that old, rusting out, and see post #15.

Milli Vanilli albums.
