Things to do in Galena when it rains

Dear 'Dopers:

jeevwoman and I are planning a little mini-break to Galena next weekend (Memorial Day). I say “mini” both because the break itself will be short (only a few days) and because we are bringing the dogs. We found a nice dog-friendly b&b to stay in. If the weather is nice, we plan to spend most of our time there hiking in the various parks, woods, etc. that are out there to be hiked.

Our concern is “what happens if it rains?” A lot of businesses and indoor attractions don’t take too kindly to dogs, and we can’t leave them alone at the lodge. (Readers familiar with our dog care tales will understand that we can’t really crate them, and there’s too much potential for mischief to let them run unconfined.)

So, the question is, can anyone recommend things to do if it rains, other than camp out in the room with cards, videos and dog toys?

So Galena is that exciting, huh?

Well, I’ve been to Galena, and well there’s always the “bed” half of “bed & breakfast.”

(In any case, what were you planning on doing with the dogs when you have to, say, go eat somewhere? You are going to have to leave them at some point, aren’t you? Or did you plan on eating in shifts?)

Otherwise, I have one word for you if it rains: Gore-Tex.

We were planning on doing carry-out. For a few days, it should be fine. The main point of the trip is not so much the “bed” in “bed & breakfast” (though that will probably occur to) as much as it is to get our city dogs some fresh country air and nice walks in the woods.

Hang out in that cheese place and sample lots of kinds of cheese! Really, I haven’t been there in years and all I remember is the cheese place (with Apple Jack cheese …mmmmm).
