I forget about Hershey, she might enjoy the candy.
I’ll have to take her to the butterfly conservatory, I’m sure she’ll really like that. There also seems like a lot of things to do, though some will not be open at the time. But then that just means that there will be a lot less people around.
Not for nothing, but our last trip to the falls my pop remembered the ol’ Abbot & Costello routine. Find on youtube and do it in a good silly/spooky voice, your 5 yer old might go nuts like mine did.
If you drive through Binghamton, NY, visit the Discovery Museum - a great Children’s Museum. Or, even better! Visit the Strong Museum in Rochester NY (1 hr east of Niagara Falls, NY) is an AWESOME children’s museum!!! They have some original pieces of the Sesame Street stage. Your child will love playing there!
There’s not much on the NY side. But, the Ontario side has a whole host of activities from movies, arcades, fun houses, wax museums and Ripley’s Believe it or Not. We took our little one up in the tower that overlooks the Falls, and saw some awesome rainbows in the mist (on a sunny day). Oh, and there’s a butterfly conservatory just 1/2 hr up the road from the Falls! Take a quick look at the Flower Clock, and keep going to the Butterfly Conservatory! It is the best one we’ve been to having visited many (mostly smaller).
Last, I’d recommend a hotel with a pool for fun, too.
When are you going? If you go in off-season, many attractions at the Falls open late, close early, and/or don’t open at all. Also, avoid July 4th weekend! It is a major holiday for both Canada (July 1st) and USA. You’ll regret it if you go at this time of year…a mad house!
Oh, and don’t forget there are fireworks over the Falls every Friday night. Plus, the Falls are illuminated in changing colors each night! Cool!
If the Maid of the Mist is running, they do provide passengers with plastic ponchos to wear over your clothes, and there are parts of the boat that don’t get wet too (though they are a lot less fun!)
