I hope you’re hitting up other breweries in Portland. It’s one of the best cities in America right now for microbrews. The Widmer Bros. Brewery is another highlight.
I’d get to Multnomah Falls early. The place gets very crowded on weekends.
Well, we had a great weekend - thanks for the all the suggestions.
A quick run-down just in case anyone’s interested: Friday, we drove into Portland, checked into our hotel and did a cruise to sort of get oriented.
Saturday morning, we started with an overview of the old highway and a little hiking at some of the smaller falls. We did lunch at the Full Sail brewery. Entertainment during lunch was provided by the White Salmon fire (the brewery is directly across the river, though we saw only smoke, not flame). The even better news: we got to try Full Sail’s Bourbon-Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout (available only in a limited batch at the brewery). It was quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever had to drink. Get down there before they run out.
Anyway, we finished Friday driving down to the end of the gorge, saw the Maryhill museum, drove back on the WA side of the gorge and had some very mediocre Thai food in Gresham (further proving my theory that Yelp is worthless).
Sunday we hiked around Multnomah (I put it off because Saturday was too damn hot to hike), had a wonderful picnic lunch at the base of Horsetail falls and did Bonneville dam. (We didn’t meet anyone having a birthday, though). We drove back early and had real Thai food in Bellevue before finishing the trip home.
