Things You Are Still Kicking Yourself for Not Buying

A 1957 Topps Bart Starr “rookie card,” back in the late 70s or early 80s when one could be had for about 10 bucks in very good condition.

Last I looked I think it was selling for about $350 or so.

I’m still kicking myself because I didn’t buy that automatic self ass-kicking machine.

If it didn’t have arms, it might have been designed around the time of hoop skirts. Women had to sit really low to avoid having the hoop ride up, which would be a social disaster in those times.

hey Mithril. i found a Dr. Laura Board Game at ebay

  1. An airline ticket to Paris while I was still in my twenties.

  2. One or more of Eve’s books! But how can I buy them if I don’t know their titles???

Ok, there I was, there I was, there I was IN the Grande Bazaar in Istanbul…

A perfectly fitting 3/4 leather jacket, forest green with brown collars. I looked GOOD in it. Opening bid- $200, I could have gotten it for $100-$125. Unfortunately I was a broke college student.

Damn damn damn damn damn!

I had chance to buy an original 289 Shelby Cobra about 20 years ago. The seller needed some quick cash and was selling it for less that it was worth at the time, he wanted $5000, it was worth $15,000. One just like it sold for $80,000 at a Barrett-Jackson Auction this past January.

A copy of D’Aulaire’s Norse Gods and Giants. Back in 1995 I was working at a B. Daltons and ordered a paperback copy of the book through Ingram. It arrived and sat in the employee hold cabinet for months and I never actually bought it.

It is definitely one of the beloved books of my childhood and it’s now out of print. Used copies go for 100+. I really regret not buying it when I had the chance!

I wish they would reprint it :frowning:

No it was an upholstered chair and I wouldn’t say it was much older than the 1960’s, tops. Think the Blue’s Clues “thinking chair” but with low seat and arms and a high back. And not a cool red velvet, lol. Although, I could’ve had it redone in red velvet! DAMN! I’m missing it more than ever now! :frowning:

I once was kicking myself for not buying a great-looking old T-Bird on a used car lot. I’d passed it every day with my tongue out, but in a week it was gone.

I was bummed royal.

Then it magically REAPPEARED!
Turns out they had just sent it to a detailer’s to have the engine steam cleaned and the upholstery leather buffed.

So I bought it better than before.

I have that T-Shirt! It’s one of my most prized possessions.

How about a sweatshirt instead? They are available at Marshall Fields at Amazon.com for $17.99.

Sorry CrankyAsAnOldMan, here’s a link:

Sorry I don’t know how to do those condensed links.

A didgeridoo while vacationing in australia. Not one of the crappy $50 tourist models, but one designed for playing. It had a rich, deep tone in the key of B. Every didge is different, and this one was one that “fit” me just right. But, didges are a pain in the butt to transport, and I already had two (D and E#) and what I really wanted was one in C, so I didn’t get it. Oh well.

These are all so profound. Mine is another Godzilla item – a little one that was a table lighter.

Another Brilliant Find

In some Sugar Shack in Tijuana, Mexico, decades ago: A black velvet painting with portraits of Clint Eastwood, Charles Bronson. Elvis and Jesus, all on the same canvas, with a lot of strange filagree on the edges. And, decent portraits, at that. Sure, it was Turista art, but brilliantly done in it’s well-honed sense of overkill. Ain’t seen the like since…

I bought my condo in 1995 for $78,000.00 and I’m pretty happy with it. However, I had a chance to buy a corner 1 bedroom condo for $70,000.00 and I still wonder if I made the better choice. The condo I really wanted had loads of storage space, lots of light and the aforementioned large balcony. The problems with the condo were outdated appliances, weird room layouts and worn out carpet; all of which could be changed. In fact, I was glad the condo was outdated, so I could re-do it. The reason I rejected that condo was that there were some shady issues about the management and unresolved legal problems. I decided to go with the plainer condo with the better management. I’m sure I made the right decision, but I was really missing that cornder condo.
