I think the same of Steve Earle,love his music,but he is boring in concert.

Back in the day, I saw Mazzy Star perform twice and both times were very dull experiences. Granted, they play very low-key mellow stuff but I’ve seen other artists perform mellow stuff but still make for an entertaining show (between song chatter, stage presence, etc). Hope Sandoval just drapes over the mic and mumbles through the songs with her head down. I don’t know if she’s naturally that somnolent in person or just exceedingly shy and hates performing or what. Nothing against her as a person, she’s just not a good performer.
A decade+ later, my wife told me that her sister was going to see Hope Sandoval perform and I told her my experience. Sure enough, later that night, my sister-in-law calls my wife bitching about how terrible the show was. No idea if she still performs or not but she’s definitely skippable live no matter how much you like her music… stick with your CDs.
Heh. I first saw it mentioned in a lovingly-written book about The Beatles, which I read decades ago.
