Things you like on the SDMB

I love the people, of course.

I love that I can go into CS and get 30 differing views on a book I just read. Or I can say, what’s this book I read 27 years ago, it had a guy and a horse and a dog, and 10 minutes later a Doper has come up with the answer.

I like the jokes and the quick response.

I like the poetry - sometimes.

But mostly it’s the people.

I enjoy being able to ask a question about topics such as Tuesday Weld, Arthur Lee & Love, Rififi, etc. and have people know what the hell I’m talking about- my friends and co-workers are pretty lame.

Hot Naked Chicks

I like when people link to an article and then post a little from the text.

With light bondage, no less!

I love the relentless twisting of words and ideas into groan-worthy puns that can stretch up to a dozen or more posts in a row. Particularly, the “naked chicks” and “boobies” mentioned above. Alas, I am not witty enough to keep such a joke continuing, but they are great to read nonetheless.

(talking to my stuffed animal). Bubbles, it’s going to be a long night.

I enjoy the wide range of high quality discussion. Where else can you read debates about the situation in the Mid-East and discussions about the difficult video games in one place?

It’s been three weeks since I started this thread and attended my first ever Dopefest. Yay!! The Michigan Dopefest! It was among the greatest RL conversations in my life. It was like the Matrix; I could “see” the threads as we sat and talked. Dopers are so enlightened. So witty. So wise. None of my non-Doper friends are able to keep up with the pace and I doubt they could hold their own with the rest of us.

We started in Cafe Society, spent some time in GQ and IMHO, and ended the night in MPSIMS. There is just something about meeting fellow Dopers in a resaurant or a cafe. Going up to the reservation host and giving the name Cecil Adams. Ha! What a riot, I got a kick out of that. I feel like I’m part of a secret society, oh wait, this is a secret society.

Two weeks ago I talked to my stuffed animal and said: Bubbles, it’s going to be a long night.

Fifty posts later, it was one hell of a night. Oh sure, 25 posts alone were made “today” but the past two weeks felt like one night. Prophetic.

I’ve found my Muse. Just look at life. All you Dopers have helped me find my Muse. It’s one thing to have culture but to share and experience it, that’s what life is about. A diamond and a rock. Some of the posts are deep and multifaced; others I can break open the logic like a rock! And the rest of the posts are engaging, active, crazy, insightful conversation.

Here’s to good conversation! And, in the end, some last words…

Bubbles, it going to be a long night.
