I initially wrote a pretentious introduction. I’ve just discarded it.
I love flat surroundings, especially those near the coast such as this one:
Sea slugs.
I live in Los Angeles. When I am talking about this to people in other places, the thing I tell them that I love most is that we have mountain lions living with us, sometimes within the city limits. Most people think of LA as Hollywood-Beverly Hills-Downtown-the beach. It is all of those things, but it also has a lot of wild land within it’s borders (Griffith Park, canyons between The Valley and western LA), and lions live there. LIONS! Some bears and deer and whatnot also, but LIONS! It just gives me a smile that there is a non-zero chance that living in LA, one day out walking, you might get eaten by a lion.
And, we’ve had a recent baby boom, with 13 new kittens born to 5 mothers.
My country, my wife, my sons, my dog.
Dang it. Four minutes too late.
