Things you wish Itunes could do

Wow thanks!

Not hog so much memory. Trying to scroll through my list of thousands of songs is just painful.

Scan my music folders and automatically add and delete music from my library without me doing it manually. Hell, allowing me to ctrl-click so I could delete multiple things at once would be an improvement.

Allow me to queue songs without creating a playlist first.

Allow me to retain playlist order when playing a playlist remotely.

Allow me to chain certain songs together so that when I play them on random, they can optionally not be broken up. AFAIK, no media player does this.

Natively support Ogg Vorbis.

I just couldn’t understand all of the complaints about memory use and slowness of iTunes. Even on my oldest computer, it’s reasonably snappy.

Then I used it on Windows.

I don’t know what’s going on there, but this program performs well even on slow Macs, but is slow (especially starting up) even on a reasonably well-equipped 2-year-old Windows computer.

Contact tech support. They can fix that for you.

Control-clicking to select a bunch of songs works fine. I do it all the time on my Mac, and I just tested it on the Windows machine, too.

I wish it would work better with large (50,000+ songs) libraries. Playback isn’t bad but heaven help you if you want to edit the info. Click. Pause. Jellyball. Pause. Every field, every time. It’s a nightmare.

Automatically stop playback after the currently playing song, or skip to another song I’ve selected (forming a queue). I love these features in Winamp, and iTunes’ lack of anything similar is a big reason why I rarely use it as a music player, just for keeping my iPod organized. Support my ADD, Apple!

I also wish it worked better with libraries made up of a lot of individual songs, not full albums. I know it was created for people bringing their CDs into digital format, but with so many places on the web to legally download songs “ala carte” style - including iTunes! - it would be nice to have more options to separate full albums from individual songs.

I wish you could select more than one playlist at a time when moving them into folders or deleting them.

I wish you could make playlist from selection from just one song.

I wish you could make clips from purchased audio and video.

I wish you could make video playlists play more than one video in a row on the ipod.

I wish the ipod could handle more than one video format/size, and could sync camera videos from iphoto like it syncs photos.

I wish that smart playlists could make use of all the fields in the infobox.

I wish that the ipod and podcast columns were sortable like regular playlist windows.

I wish that the podcast size column actually meant something in collapsed form. There’s some number there, but it certainly isn’t the total size for all the episodes of that podcast. Maybe it’s the size of the most recent one? Who knows!

Moving thread from IMHO to Cafe Society.

I now wish it didn’t freeze up every time I put my Ipod into it to update. Ipod blanked out all songs/podcasts for some reason… Uh… Ok… Plug in to update and freezes itunes. I now have to find a way to install 7.6.whatever as a last resort because Apple doesn’t like it when you install an older version… In fact, it just won’t let me… So completely uninstall, reinstall older… cross fingers…

Easily transfer music other than purchases. We have our main library on our desktop PC - that’s where we rip CDs and purchase from iTunes.

My laptop is also authorized for my iTunes account. When I connect my iPod to my laptop, I have an easy option to transfer the purchases. But if I’ve got other recently-added music, I have to transfer that manually. As a result, this almost never happens.

In case you weren’t aware of this: click on your Music heading under Library, then do File / Show Duplicates. It’ll show all duplicate titles, then you can manually delete the duplicates. I’d trust that rather than a true automatic dupe-delete - what if it misidentified something?

Bummer on the AOL music :frowning:

I’ve had Podcasts that iTunes arbitrarily decided were not podcasts, and won’t sort them into the Podcasts list. I can change the Info on them so they look like podcasts, but they stay in the Music folder, and are shuffled as songs. I’ve got two on my music list right now, a Diggnation and an Astronomy cast that should have been deleted long ago, and if they’d been in the goddamn Podcast folder, they would have been.

This will help you get everything off your iPod and back on to your computer (and, by association, iTunes). You’ll then be able to sync all your new stuff along with your old stuff. Just make sure iTunes isn’t open when you run Yamipod.

An update on my problem several posts up: It wasn’t the version of itunes that was the problem, rather, it just decided it didn’t like my taste in music and deleted the whole library. Thankfully I have everything in one big folder so it was a matter of going through and putting the albums back on (and putting all my other music that I never listened to into a different folder). Sucks, though, because for some reason some albums I like arn’t there and I can’t find them through search. Also, I have to redo a lot of album artwork. This isn’t the first time that’s happened.
