Ah, OK. Still, it’s quite possible that James Potter and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named-Because-We’re-All-A-Bunch-Of-Scardy-Cats-And-We’re-Afraid-That-He-Might-Be-Nearby-And-Hear-Us could be related.
Really? Where? (Except for the actual event, of course.)
I think they’re related, but not brothers.

—I’m sure the order of Lilly and James came out of the wand IS a plot point, it was spoke of twice in the book.—
Rowling has admitted that this was an unintentional mistake, and later versions of the book are supposed to have corrected it (i.e., Lily comes out before James).
I’ll make one safe prediction…
Neville will end up doing what he does best and teaching herbology at Hogwarts.
Best to keep the predictions simple.
Finally, a date for the next book: this July.
Where’s that coming from?
I can confirm that. I got the book (Goblet of Fire) when it was first released, and wore it out over the course of several months. My replacement copy, obtained last summer, has the order changed to reflect the (reversed) order of the deaths of Lily and James.
We’re definitely going to learn that Sybil Trelawney’s other true prediction is what prompted Voldemort to target Harry for destruction.
We may find the maiden name of Tom Riddle’s paternal grandmother. And it may turn out to be Dursley. This could have very interesting repercussions. For instance, if Trelawney’s prediction leads Voldemort to understand that a blood relative of Lily’s will cause his downfall it will make it possible for Dudley to wander in at some point, stumble over a tripwire, and make an anvil fall on Voldemort’s head, reducing him to a Yosemite Sam-like walking disk (flattened hat, with two large shoes sticking out, scurrying around in circles). Or something.
Based on Dudley’s current, um, physical condition (fat) maybe if he fell on Voldemort…
I’d send Rowling a $100 if she did that.
In light of recent posts, is it safe to say that you were referring to discussion of the spell/effect, and not the actual order of Lily and James’s appearance?
Could Harry’s father have been a Death Eater, do you think?
I’ve played with Harry’s name before, but none of the anagrams (REAR THY PROP, TRY APT HERO) speak to the relationship.
Characters who scream “Marked for Death” to me (besides Voldemort, obviously):
-
Dumbledore
-
Arthur Weasley
-
Snape
-
Hagrid
Characters I find to be likely, but not definite possibilities for death: -
Fred/George Weasley (They seem ripe for a ‘goof offs who get their act together and end up dying nobley’ storyline, especially if somone in their family gets offed)
-
Neville (doing something disgustingly brave)
-
Sirius
-
Dobby
You can’t kill of Longbottom, he’s the last of the Longbottoms that can have kids. Without him, we’d be swimming in Halfbottoms and Shortbottoms! Plus, he has to marry Hermione!
—Arthur Weasley—
I’d actually suggest his wife is more likely. Rowling has some real personal issues with mother figures dying, and Mrs. Weasely is the closest thing to a beloved mother that Harry has. Her death would REALLY piss him off (not to mention Ron).
—3) Snape—
Don’t think so, unless at the very, very end. I’d like to see some character development with Snape and his relationship towards Harry: a respect and friendship, gruding or no.
—4) Hagrid—
Maybe: the actor playing him has been oddly quiet about whether or not he is contracted for all 7 films… I think his answer was a cryptic “sorta”
—Fred/George Weasley—
I’d say no unless there’s some apocalypse in which many or most characters die. They HAVE gotten their acts together: they have a dream, and they’re working towards it.
—3) Sirius—
You probably need Sirius alive for a truly happy ending (he’s Harry’s best bet at a remaining father figure at the end) so it all depends.
Oh, please, Ms. Rowling, pretty please?!?!?
Snape and Neville are so marked, you might as well paint bull’s-eyes on their chests. Both will probably do something to save Harry before they die. No guess on whether it’ll be sooner or later, however.
I’ve already predicted Dumbledore’s death, and I’ll go further and predict that it’ll be in book 5.
