Sounds pretty cool, although with my past umm… misjudgements I’m sure I’m not eligable.
It’ll get pretty interesting when the defense lawyers on evidence secured by non-professionals I bet though.
It is a nice concept, but like you, I shudder at what is gonna happen when the defense lawyers get going on this.

“We require all crime scene investigators to have at least detective training, so they are all detectives. So they are specialists in and have training in how to investigate a given case,” said Gregory Laberge, director of the crime lab.
These CSIs won’t be analyzing or trying to solve the cases, which the department says minimizes the possibility of lawsuits, but they will be adding to the crime lab, and, hopefully the number of solved cases
.
They aren’t just giving untrained people kits and saying “go collect evidence” which is basically all the volunteers will be doing. From the article, CSI isn’t really what they will be doing, it should be CSC (for evidence collecter) or something.
