Wave after wave of little criminal vignettes with pictures and more archives at the bottom. Every little story of a life gone astray and people victimized by petty and not so petty crime builds into a numbing, mortified wave that makes you appreciate what you’ve got, however squalid you think it may be.
Wow that is Scumbag Central.
Years ago there was a British real life TV series that I saw which followed the investigations, arrests and interrogations from selected murder cases. The overwhelming sensations were the stupidity of the participants and the banality of what led to the crime. It was profoundly depressing, sometimes I felt sorry for the “poor” murderer because you could tell that by his moronic standards he had no choice but to do what he did.
I don’t think these people are like you or I or anyone we know.
Two thoughts:
-
Theft by Unlawful Taking? Is there some other kind?
-
Don’t trust people with the last name “Strunk”.
Ya beat me to it.
Me too! Doesn’t theft always mean you’re taking something unlawfully?
One post on the horror of it all, and three posts on the awkward phraseology of legal grammar. The Dope* is* a different place.
And one post wondering how these people got to this point in their lives.
Sad.
astro, I didn’t see much point in commenting on the rest. I didn’t see “the horror of it all” I saw “more of the same” that we’re (unfortunately) totally used to seeing in this day and age. I see sites like this all the time. I read articles about pathetic criminals all the time. I see news reports on tv about them all the time. It has ceased to shock me or prompt me to comment in amazement. Is that sad? Of course it is.
Theft can be unauthorized use, as well as unauthorized taking.
At first, I was going to say “avoid men with moustaches,” but that trend faded as the pages went on.
Looks like there’s also “theft by deception.” (It’s in the fifth one down.)
Judging by the expression in her mug shot, I’d say she was related to Tom DeLay.
She’s a hottie, though.
take a close look at their photos. seperated at birth… married later?
There were at least three Strunks on that page.
OK, if I ever take an IQ test and the question is
“Snopes is to Yoknapatawpha as _____________ is to Fayette”
I’ll know to answer “Strunk”
Now I only have one unanswered question: when guys were arrested in the 1940’s, 1960’s, etc, were they always naked from the waist up? Because, from watching Cops since the late 1980’s that seems to be the dress code. Or was there a gradual shift from the torn-up zoot suit to the dingy wife-beater to full torso nudity?
And in economic news, duffel bag sales in Fayette County are up 650%.
I wonder what’s up with the last guy. He couldn’t fit $148 into his wallet? And neither of those last two seemed to put anything but cash into the bags.
“Drugs and guns? Sure, just toss 'em on the dining room table, but we really have to hide that legal tender!”
Maybe mug shots just tend to create this effect, but don’t most of 'em look like they came right out of Central Casting to play the role of low-life criminal?
At least drunk drivers aren’t getting off lightly (Ryan Leugers).
In the bad old days, people would get off of vehicular homicide charges “because they were drunk”. Now, it’s the reason for the conviction.
Well done, Kentucky!
That was my first thought, too.
Opal, did you just…post a list with only two items in it? Or do I still need my coffee?
