I’m really enjoying it. I do have to remind myself from time to time that I am essentially watching a comic book, especially when things get a little cheesy. Can’t wait for next season!
It’s definitely a show for which you have to put your brain in DC Comics mode. But it’s a lot of fun for those of us who can do that.
This season’s finale was particularly rife, as they seemed to try to call back everything that ever happenened to Oliver and his team.
I’m not just looking forward to next season, but to the Flash spinoff.
I’m a few episodes past the point where Felicity joins the team and so far I wouldn’t call the show horrible, but you’ve got to be very forgiving of “The Stupid”. The writing team clearly has no vested interest in making anything even slightly logical, nor preserving continuity from scene to scene. If something is necessary for the plot, it will be forced to happen, regardless of everything we have seen to date, including 30 seconds earlier.
One particular example was a time when the main character (Olliver) is dating a girl (Helena), who is also a vigilante. They go out on a date and meet a couple of Olliver’s friends, his best friend and his ex-girlfriend (who are now dating each other). All three of them think it would be terribly awkward to eat together, because the best friend is dating is ex, so the writers give the ex such a severe case of hunger that she forces them all to sit together at the same table, so she doesn’t have to wait 15 minutes for a table to open up.
Somehow this breaks out into a fight (I don’t remember the details), but as fallout Olliver’s date decides to dump him because it’s clear to her that he’s still in love with his ex (though nothing had displayed this in any way). So Olliver goes home and proceeds to give a speech to his sidekick that they can’t trust Helena, because he had looked into her eyes and realised that - as a vigilante - she was really just hell-bent on revenge and killing people after-all.
You have to feel sorry for the actors.
I’ve described Arrow as the perfect mix of really good looking actors and really bad acting. My wife and I watch it every week. Like others have said, the show picks up in the second half of season 1. Season 2 is very good.
