Well said, Dooku. In all my years of going to Busch, I have never seen anything even remotely like the actions described by Hentor the Barbarian. I have seen Cubs fans, part of a colorful and intense rivalry with the Cardinals, treated with respect and joking by Cards fans. I have never seen anyone throw bottles, or pour beer on anything other than thirsty throats.
As with every large group of people, ther are always jerks. But as I have stated before, I have seen no rioting in the streets, and no bottles, batteries, or other trash thrown at the celebrating Red Sox team. Nothing other than disappointed fans.
And Hentor, if your family was chased out of the ballpark as you claim, you could have easily gone to any number of ushers or security personnel and reported the incident. That’s what they’re there for.
Yes, members of my family had beer dumped on them. After one game, a group of fuckers hanging around outside by one of the exits threatened and chased my brothers from the stadium. I got into playground fights for liking Pittsburgh teams. As I said, I would suspect that this was worsened by the fact that the Cardinals sucked cock then while the Pirates were regularly doing well. St. Louis fans grew much more tolerant of Pirates fans in the 80’s. Very magnanimous of them, huh?
Dooku, it’s amazing that you had these experiences that perfectly mirror my own. So much so that I suspect you are making them up out of wholecloth. Why would you have to make up stories like that?
I never went to a Penguins-Blues game, but I do know that many Blues fans would tell me more about the fights in the stands than what actually happened in the games when they would go.
All I am suggesting is that you drop the “St. Louis Cardinals fans are the most respectful and polite fans in the world” bullshit. Did you never curse the name of Don Denkinger? Did you not whine about the roof of the Metrodome? Everyone else there did.
Well, if it makes any difference, this Sox fan never trash-talked the Cards (blew everything I had on the Yanks, I guess), and promises not to. As for this series, well, it happens. All we can do is promise to meet up again next year and try it again.
And this group of fuckers were designated by the other fans in the stadium to do so, thus condemning all Cardinal fans as “rude, intolerant pieces of shit” or at least enough to matter? It was one group of assholes in an isolated incident, or did your family get chased out at every game?
You’re kidding right? You’re gonna shit on Cardinal fans because of the actions of children in a playground 20+ years ago (guessing by your mention of the Cards getting good in the 80s)? Grow up.
Yeah, cuz hearing a fan yell “Player X sucks” at a ballgame is so rare, he must be pulling it out of his ass. And getting the beer dumped on him at a hockey game. I’m not a hockey fan so I don’t know how common this is, but is it really so uncommon that you must accuse Dooku of lying, or do you feel you’re the only person to have heard a fan yell that an opposing player sucked or be involved in a beer-dumping incident?
No, you’re holding a childhood grudge, it seems to me. As we all should know, every group has its assholes. “St. Louis Cardinals fans are the most respectful and polite fans in the world” is a generalization. So that means, among these respectful and polite fans there’s going to be some Grade-A jack-offs. But for the most part, Cards fans have a respect and knowledge of the game.
So when did these incidents occur? Cards fans didn’t get their current reputation till the mid-80s or so. If this shit is all stuff that went down 20 or so years ago, and you’re still pissed off at the current generation of fans, I’d politely and respectfully request you get the fuck over it already.
Look, I gave you a range of incidents that included, yes, playground fights, as well as adult behavior at the stadium in the 70’s and recent bullshit pulled here in Pittsburgh by another moron. I told you that the latter occurred just last year. Seems a pretty clear range of stuff and not a childhood grudge to me.
I am not arguing that Cardinals fans are the worst fans ever. I do have to object to the assertion that they are paragons of tolerance and acceptance regarding fans of other teams. That is bullshit, and I have had enough experience with Cardinals fans who are fucknuts to know this for sure.
Look, my in-laws are Cardinals fans. They are good people. The worst they do is call you up to gloat. But Cardinals fans, by and large, can make no greater claim than any other of acceptance and good behavior. Looking back at what I wrote before, I will clearly say that my last assertion went too far in the other direction. In my experience, plenty of Cardinals fans could not accept that I liked a different team, and gave me and other people I knew a lot of trouble about that. Sometimes it was aggressive and violent. I should not have generalized this as much as I did with that one line.
No, I’m not making them up. What I did make up was the part about getting out an enormous brush and condemning all Pirates and Pens fans based on those minor incidents.
Never in the probably hundred or so Blues games I have attanded of the years have I ever known anyone to comment more on the fights than the game action, as fights are extremely rare. It’s more of a wine-and-cheese atmopsphere. I think you’re thinking of Chicago Stadium.
IOW, I suspect that you are making this up out of wholecloth. Why would you have to make up stories like that?
