Last year saw the cessation of Unca Cece’s weekly epistles, and he has been frozen in carbonite according to the most plausible rumors. But his influence lives on, in our memories and in his collected works. The First Straight Dope Column, dated February 2, 1973, appeared on this day 46 years ago. Let us read and remember, then collectively pick up the fallen torch and move bravely and resolutely forward, with his name in our hearts and on our lips, in the ongoing struggle against ignorance!

Taking a lot longer then we thought
It should be a national holiday. I was introduced to Cecil Adams by way of his first book and instantly became a big fan. I miss his incomparable style.
