Ever wanna see what it is actually like to win the lottery? So did Thad’s friends, who video taped the lottery from the night before and swapped tickets on him.
I see this sort of thing on America’s Funniest Home Videos from time to time, and I don’t think it’s funny at all. I think it’s downright cruel, as a matter of fact. Given the sort of constant, never-ending stress money issues cause to many people, doing that is roughly the equivalent of telling a seriously ill person “Look, here’s the cure to all your pain and stress and misery! You’re finally free of all of it!” and then saying “Ooops! Just kiddding! Ha ha ha!”
It’s mean and nasty and anyone who does it is an utter asshole, IMHO.
I’m totally with Lucretia. If this were to happen to me, I would be so upset that I’d probably have a hard time seeing straight. There are many times a year where I’m not certain whether I’ll have enough to pay the bills when they come, and winning the lottery would solve all of that. To have a prank promise me the solution to all my money problems and then yank the carpet out from under me would have me sobbing and angry at the same time. Seriously Not Cool.
Come on. Any time you win the lottery in that way, you’ve got to be a little skeptical. I mean, your friends brought you the lottery ticket, you’ve got to be a little suspicious. My friend gave me a “winning” scratch off ticket once. I didn’t even flinch, thanks to my skeptical nature. He was naive. He’ll definitely come out of this wiser. Maybe they helped prevent him from being a Nigerian money scam victim later in life. But it is sad to see a grown man cry in that way.
Exactly right. If someone did it to me I would say " You shit. You got me." and have a laugh. I also know people I could never do this to without being shitlisted forever. Since these guys were friends, had done this kind of stuff before and put it on the internet with some production value, I get the impression that the guy wasn’t too upset about it.
