This is someone who died, died [Jim Carroll]

Jim Carroll, author of The Basketball Diaries, and of course writer of the song.

Sounds like a good Deathpool for someone, maybe.

Crap. I guess he’s no longer my favorite living poet :frowning:

I have fond memories of spending several years finally understanding what I’d read in The Basketball Diaries when I was 10 years old and left alone with my precocity and my aunt’s bookshelf.

He will be missed.

That just seems weird. I don’t know why, but it does. I liked The Basketball Diaries a lot, and he made some good music (esp. the song referenced in the title of this thread.)

I saw his band in 1980 right after Catholic Boy came out, they did a very good show in a small club. At the time I did not know about Basketball Diaries but I read it soon after that.

(I’ve merged two threads on the same topic, and edited the name.)

Loved that song and album.

Too bad. I’m going to put “Catholic Boy” in the CD player and shoot dome heroin in tribute. OK, maybe just the CD…

Me, too - I was just playing it in the car the other day and my kids looked at like I was nuts. Very cool.

He lived a lot longer than I would have expected. But to reach 60, was it? That was a fair run.

Now it’s really too late to fall in love with Sharon Tate.

Yeah, if half of Basketball Diaries was true then this guy had like 40 years of bonus time. Not bad. I wonder if drugs were ultimately related to his death.

RIP JC. I recommend Forced Entries, his 2nd novel, for a glimpse into his life as he became an adult.
