This is what sucks about the morning shift

Dammit, i finally have that coveted morning shift, where I show up way too damned early, and get off work way too damned early. So now I have all afternoon to get shit done …

Except, here it is, Saturday night, and I would really like to go sing my ass off at my favorite karaoke bar. But I’ve been awake since 4:00 AM. And now it’s 7:00 PM. Karaoke doesn’t start for another 2 hours. And these days 8:00 PM is my normal bedtime, and I’m getting sleepy and want to go to bed … but I want to go sing!

It also doesn’t help that I’ve already been drinking since 3PM. And I’m the bass player on my church worship team, and I really hate showing up for church hungover.

Lightweight, I’ve been drinking since 1130 this morning. Saturdays are great.

I really enjoy having corporate flex time. Yay. If I could get my company to agree to let me work from home I’d be set.

What is the early shift? 6-2?

Yeah 6-2, but I actually show up around 5, just because I need the extra time to get shit done.

I’m a big fan of mid-day naps. About the only time I wake up that early these days is if I’m running a 5k, but when I do, I go home, taking a shower and a nap. Then I’m good to go for a normal day.

I tried the nap thing last week. Woke up around 8PM … completely dazed and confused, followed immediately by an all-out panic because my brain registered the time as 8 AM and I was convinced that I had seriously overslept and was really late for work :stuck_out_tongue:

What time did you go down for the nap? I can’t sleep too long, or it does screw with my night. But if I get in a good half hour or hour, it does wonders for me.

About 6PM. Waking up at 8:00 really screwed with me, because that’s what time I normally try to go to bed on work nights.

Ah yes, the perfect power nap. Not long enough where you feel all groggy when you wake, but just long enough to feel refreshed. I love a 30 minute nap. It helps that I can fall asleep in less than a minute.

Did you set an alarm clock to get up at 8:00, or did you just kinda wake up naturally? As a graveyard shift worker, I find myself taking naps most days, and I can attest that waking up to an alarm that I set doesn’t have the disorienting effects of waking up “suddenly” without having done anything to make it happen.

I worked 12 hour night shift for most of my 40 years working. I worked days for three months and i was begging to go back to nights!

I had set the alarm (I was wanting to sing karaoke at 9), but I actually woke up before the alarm went off. But you’re right, the alarm would have clued me in right away.

I ended up not going out. I still felt too tired after the nap. Just as well. I need to stop blowing money going out.

Yeah. I work 7-3:30. I usually get to work at about 6:30 though.

I can usually stay up to midnight on weekends, but not always. Weekdays are in bed around 8, read a bit and lights out.

Worked the graveyard shift for a number of years. That’s when I learned it’s never to early for a brewski. A friend I worked with would often come to my house after work and we would be popping them at 7am.
