This is why you should wear a seat belt

VICTIM EJECTED ONTO 5 FREEWAY SIGN AFTER CRASH NEAR GLENDALE

That is some Grand Theft Auto 5 shit right there. Only real. Wow!

That photo, dude. It must have been shocking to see as it happened and before the sheet was put over him.

I disagree. People driving recklessly shouldn’t wear seatbelts to increase their chances of achieving Darwin Award status, and thus not endangering anyone else.

People not being assholes should wear them. I saw a Caddy flip over a guardrail (not the guy’s fault) and land on its roof. The driver, wearing a seatbelt, was okay.

This guy just wanted to hang around after the accident. All he needed up there was a case of beer to enjoy before continuing the journey into the afterlife.

Imagine the shock if the sign crew came to change the sign several years from now and found that skeleton.

Oh, one of those signs.

Yeah, something similar happened to a professor at my university in undergrad, on a class field trip, too, IIRC. He wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle and died-- if he’d been wearing his seatbelt, he most likely would have survived, and maybe even walked away from the accident.

Always wear your seatbelt, guys.

FUCK! I can only wonder if he was thrown well past the overhead sign then fell on it! That is freaky shit.

The sign the guy landed to.

I have seen a few crash compilations videos (many from Saudi Arabia, for some reason many young guys love drifting over there) and what usually does happen is that the person being ejected first gets crushed by the car and then on the next car flip the person is ejected, a dead man flying. And before hitting the sign too.

‘I don’t want to wear a seat belt!’

‘Here’s your sign.’

It’s just before Halloween; you know what would have made that even better?

An altered temporary light-up road signs one mile before Colorado St.

I saw the sign
And it opened up my eyes, I saw the sign
No one’s gonna drag you up
To get into the light where you belong
(But where do you belong?)

…I’ll just go stand in the corner now…

I always wear a seatbelt, 100% of the time. Sometimes, in the past, I used to go short distances without them, but not very often.

That changed when I guy I was acquainted with was killed in an accident not his fault. He was not wearing a belt and was killed when ejected from his car. He was a local celebrity, a guitar teacher of note and player in a cool band. Also a grandpa. There’s an annual guitar jam in his honor now, to raise money for music scholarships. In Dan’s memory I never take the care out of park without wearing a belt.

I had a poll thread on this. The great majority said they always wear it.

This is the most profound and moving advertisement I’ve ever seen promoting use of a seatbelt! It’s from the UK and it has won quite a few awards in various European countries. It’s only 90 seconds long and it is highly likely to give you goosebumps at the 49 second mark! It still gets me every time and I’ve seen it ast least 50 times-

That reminds me of the best drunk-driving billboard I saw. It depicted a car, at night, fully engulfed in flames. The caption read, ‘Toast a friend lately?’

Around here, at least, the seatbelt thing is a non-issue. It’s been illegal for 25+ years to ride without a seat belt, and only idiots and other Darwin award candidates don’t wear them.

Personally, I feel really strange and exposed if I start the car without the pressure of the belt across my hips and chest.

Considering the degree of difficulty, and how he stuck the landing the judges scored it 9.2, 9.7, 9.7, 7.8. The 7.8 was from the East German judge.

It has been the law here in Georgia since 1988 and the usage rate finally passed the 90% mark about two years ago! It’s hard to believe that 1 in 10 people don’t wear a seatbelt. But the dumbass thing is that they can’t stop you solely for a seat belt violation!?!? They can only cite you for not wearing a seatbelt if they pull you over for something else! WTF is up with that?

I still know a few people (and despise most of them) that refuse to wear a seatbelt. I’ve heard the “they can’t tell me that I have to do something to protect myself” or some variation thereof. What about any other passengers in your car? In an accident, you become a bouncing projectile that could severely injure or kill one or more passengers!

In some accidents, you have a chance to reduce the severity or even avoid crashing altogether if you’re in total control of your vehicle. Just 1/4 turn of the steering wheel could mean the difference between a head-on collision that kills you and your front seat passenger OR swerving to the side and the other car only clipping your back door and rear fender! But you can’t take evasive action if you’re bouncing around the car yourself…

I would make a “thinning the herd” comment, but it seems that most of these people manage to stay alive somehow…

It’s a mini-masterpiece, imo. Produced for buttons by a local road safety campaign.
