It’s not like that’s the only change in the skyline since then. I don’t know specifically, but in a city as big as New York, there have to have been other buildings that were demolished or built between when the series took place and now. Do they change all of those, too?
And @Beckdawrek , the correct form would be “could’ve”. It’s pronounced like “could of”, but it’s a contraction of “could have”.
Do you mean that they cut out the short bit of film that showed the Twin Towers, or that they left that bit of film in but (digitally?) erased the Towers themselves from it?
All I know is, when a random Law and Order* street scene where you can see the WTC in the background comes on, I am happy to remember the world where they once existed.
*or McClod, or Kojak, but I don’t watch them as much.
Yeah. I know
I know how these things work with language. It doesn’t always come out typing like we do on these keypads and keyboards.
Like I said I type coulda so often my tablet auto goes there. I try to correct it when it seems wrong somehow. Don’t always work for me. And it was late.
Yeah, that’s my excuses, teacher.
My dog ate my homework.
(Just joking you)
I don’t watch TV because I no longer have cable, so I went to good ol’ YouTube and watched the opening credits for Barney Miller there. It’s quite possible that TPTB edited the opening credits after they were posted, but from what I saw, the opening for seasons 2 and 3 include the WTC towers. Season 1 does not. In the comments, one person asked why the skyline looked like a hellscape, and that’s a good description of it. It’s not just the WTC that’s been cut out; it’s all kinds of buildings, and they all have jagged edges, like someone snapped them off.
Sorta related – anyone remember which show’s opening included a shot of the Boston John Hancock building during it’s Fort Wayne period? (When the glass windows that made up its skin where falling out and being temporarily covered up with plywood)
It’s strange to think then when they filmed the credit scene, they probably included the World Trade Center because of its newness. The building was only a few months old when the first episodes of Barney Miller were being produced.
uh, the opening titles for season 1 is a different angle of the skyline. It is showing midtown Manhattan. You aren’t seeing the WTC because they are south of that image. It’s similar to this shot also from the 1970s.
The titles for seasons 2 and 3 are from the south looking northwards past the towers.
But sure, go ahead and write the network that someone “chopped them out” of the image.
The twin towers did not appear in the first season opening credits. The picture overall had a more blue-ish cast as well, which might account for your perception that “the colors have changed.”
Fun fact about Hal Linden. He picked his stage name from a water tower in New Jersey.
I looked at the credit screen caps, and I only remember season 2 on, the “lighter, less blue” WTC shot. I know I watched it from the beginning.
Fun fact about syndicated and DVD credits: they often use the wrong season’s credits, including the wrong theme music. Some shows care more, and get the right one, some just tack on whatever they have.
