i scroll up and down with my touchpad. It never goes farther than I expect. I guess that’s similar to using the mouse wheel?
Anyone noticed that you can unpin threads? All those stickies at the top of each forum can be de-stickified once you’ve decided you don’t need to see them anymore.
Unpinning threads and muting forums/categories can lead to a smoother Discourse experience here.
It used to be you had to post in a thread to follow it, but now all you have to do is open it. If you decide you would rather not have it popping up in you pay-attention-To-this-stuff list at the bottom of the page, you have to actively mute it.
See the notification settings in your profile.
I think the default setting is that you have to spend four minutes in the thread before you’re auto-subscribed. You can manually set it back to normal.
Wow, that’s helpful. Thanks for that. I was wondering why sometimes my reading a thread had me watching it and sometimes not. Makes sense when you point it out.
Yes, not having to deal with constant connection delays and failures is SO refreshing! It’s a breath of fresh air!
I’ve done that and yes, it helps. Now I’m wondering how I’ll find those unpinned threads if I need them again.
Quick and dirty, just type in:pinned in the search box and it will show all pinned messages. in:pinned About This Message Board shows pinned in this category. Finally, use the interface if you want further filtering or don’t want to memorize the above. The pinned flag is available in the dropdown of Advanced Search under “Only return topics/posts…”
I was wondering that too. I was wondering if I logged out if the pinned ones would show up because they can’t be configured unless I’m logged in. I haven’t tried it though, so I don’t really know. I did unpin a few things, but I haven’t checked to see if logging out works.
They seem to unpin by specific category. I’m seeing pinned threads still there as pinned in some categories though I’ve unpinned them elsewhere. So pick a category that you don’t often view, or at least don’t often view by category, and leave all the pinned threads pinned there; I think that’ll keep them handy if you want them.
