Why not buy a couple hundred thousand Straight Dope T-shirts and ship them off to Iraq ? I’m sure the Iraqi’s would be grateful, and the Chicago Reader would reinvest some of the proceeds into their newly profitable web venture.
I have a theory that, ironically, the board is slow because of these types of threads.
Each time the server is upgraded, the board gets better for a bit, and then demand catches up to supply. And then, of course, we get even more demand…it’s the tragedy of the commons.
I don’t know if this was directed at me, but I just want to say that I am, in fact, strongly pro-criticism. It’s was the OP’s criticism of the site that gave me an opportunity to criticize him. It was my criticism of the OP that gave you the opportunity to criticize me. It’s a beautiful thing – may the circle never be unbroken.
Surely the SDMB should not be immune to criticism, but every week?
