All I Ever Wanted by Canadian Idol season 5 winner Brian Melo and Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls
The “why why yo” chorus to Bob Marley’s “Buffalo Soldier (2:13)”
and, um, the Theme to the Banana Splits:
My contribution: I’ve always thought the bass lines of Midnight Oil’s “Beds are Burning” and Bruce Springsteen’s “Pink Cadillac” were nearly identical.
If you listen to the song Wooly Bully by the Pharoahs, you can hear the backbeat sounds almost exactly like Wipeout by the Surfaris.
Some people confuse Leroy Anderson’s Syncopated Clock with the Jeopardy! Think Music.
Pretty much the whole of modern pop music sounds like Pachelbel’s canon in D major.
I think I already posted this in one of the many repeat clones of this thread.( Isn’t there a single original idea amongst you, it’s always like groundhog day around this place?).
But I think there was a definite rip off in the case of Copeland vs.Fallout Boy. Copeland is the better band, but it lost out to POP.
Joe Walsh’s Rocky Mountain Way and Steve Miller Band’s The Stake
I’ll Be There by the Jackson Five v Let It Be Me by the Everly Brothers.
Comedy group Supergirly used to sing Hit Me Baby (One More Time) and Oops, I Did It Again against each other - they fit quite well.
I’ve heard (but have trouble believing) that the Marley/Banana Splits thing is deliberate - that Marley liked the riff and “borrowed” it. I don’t think it’s been completely confirmed or debunked, and it’s too late now to ask Bob.
The more I think about it, the more it sounds like “Hallowed be Thy Name” by Iron Maiden.
The comedy band Tripod some years ago had a piece where they sang a round of the first four singles from Oasis’ “(What’s the Story?) Morning Glory” to show the identical chord progressions.
Here’s a threesome:
Seether - Rise Above This
Lifehouse - Hanging by a Moment
…and (Chris) Daughtry sounds like both of those songs, I thought Rise Above This was Daughtry.
Well, of course, every beginning guitar player (at least did back when I was one) figures out that “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “Feelin’ Alright (I’m not Feeling Too Good Myself)” are the same song. Many such guitarists also realize that “Take a Walk On the Wild Side” is also the same song, with bass lick added.
When I was in high school, a friend and I did a project for a political science class about Tommy Thompson (then US Secretary of Health and Human Services). Rather than a boring presentation, we did a song that mixed together “Last Resort”, Green Day’s “Brain Stew” (which control-z already mentioned), and the Foo Fighter’s “My Hero.” It was pretty good. I wish I had a recording of it to share.
Thank you! For years I thought I was the only one who thought that. (The problem being that most people I mention it to have no idea who the Banana Splits were.)
And on a similar note, the beginning of the acoustic version of “Outta Mind Outta Site” on Wilco’s “Being There” (the one on the second disc) has always reminded me of the Sesame Street Theme.
I am cracking up thinking about the Banana Splits! Mingo, Jingo, Drooper and Snortz??
The first sound-alikes I thought of are Phil Collins’ Sussudio and Prince’s 1999.
Oh thanks for putting* that* in my head.
Elvis Costello: Little Palaces = Bob Dylan:Wedding Song
The choruses to Bon Jovi’s “Living on a Prayer” and Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” are remarkably similar.
No, wait… I was actually thinking of the newest from Alexisonfire, not Fallout Boy (although, there are some clear sonic parallels…).
The eerie lyrical and melodic case of Copeland- Walking Downtown versus Alexisonfire- This Could Be Anywhere In The World
This City , this City is Haunted. Walking Downtown.
