This story right here is why I will always hate police officers

It took 4 years and a number of trials to finally obtain justice for Anthony Baez, and it looked hopeless more than once. That 4 emergency workers have been suspended without pay and one PO has had his gun and badge pulled is extraordinary swiftness in a case like this. Another officer is on desk duty, which is what would normally be expected for all of them.

Agreed. One can but hope.

Autopsy results are in; the chokehold killed him:

Chokeholds are already banned as they should be, so that makes it clear cut as to whether or not there needs to be criminal/civil consequences. But the chest compression stuff is something that police really need training on if it’s still SOP to hold an obese man face down on the ground like that. I think that while the chokehold started Garner down the path to death, if he had been allowed to lay on his side after he was restrained he probably would have lived, but since they kept pushing him face down he didn’t.

The police consider any resistance against being forced face down to be “resisting”, which for a normal-size person who isn’t necessarily imperiled in such a position may be true, but for a guy fighting to breathe not so much.
