This thing about ear hair

Hope this hasn’t been asked before…

Why is it that for 40 some odd years my ears have been naked, but now my body has decided that I need a bunch of hairs growing out of them?!

I know that ear wax is a means of keeping dirt and little critters from getting too far into my ears, but why ear hair?

When you reply please speak loud, as I’m having difficulty hearing through all this hair! :stuck_out_tongue:

Could it be the loss or thinning of hair on one’s head directly induces the growth of new hair in one’s ears and nose? From an evolutionary standpoint, could it be some sort of adaptation to protect newly exposed and vulnerable extremities to cold and other extremes? Then again, maybe it’s just a cruel joke and proof of a god with a sense of humor.

Cecil has addressed this, though not definitively.

You’re lucky. I only managed 31 years of blissfully hairless ears. Yep, I think its just God, Buddha, Superman, or whoever, being a dick for no reason.
